This article contains potentially sensitive content that may be discomforting or upsetting to a general audience. Viewer discretion is advised!
Reason: Blood is present, and Abnormal Face's appearance may be a bit unnerving to some. The "asserelrefaey" video might also be disturbing to some. Screen shaking and some flashes.
Alright, this is a long one. Can you keep up the rhythm? - Matt

I JUST WANT TO GO MY INTERVIEW WITH FIRE IN THE HOLE, STOP RUINING IT - Arrow
This mod is currently a demo and/or has upcoming content that is confirmed to be in development, either confirmed on a livestream, a tweet, or any other verified source of information.
Upcoming: Other updates featuring other difficulty faces are still yet to be released.
“FIRE IN THE HOLE”
― FIRE IN THE HOLE (pack description)
FIRE IN THE HOLE (also jokingly known as FRIDAY NIGHT FUNKIN' FIRE IN MY HOLE in the April Fools build) is a Friday Night Funkin' mod by Cooldudecrafter. It is based on various iterations of the "Lobotomy Dash / Fire in the Hole 🗣️🔥" meme, which itself involves the game Geometry Dash.
Prior to the Fate Confirmed update, all of the mods songs used to be vocal-swap covers of other mods' songs, besides the songs seen in the April Fools build which are original, and two songs which were remixes of songs from other mods, but now they’re all original.
Lore[]
The mod files include a file named "lore.txt", which (as the name entails) provides context for what occurs during each song, alongside additionnal information about the universe's lore.

~~ NORMAL FACE/ABNORMAL FACE ~~
- Abnormal face from the first song is the same one from LOGODOMY, Moist Hills and Rocky Grounds
- LOGODOMY is indeed the same normal face seen in moist hills
- By the time you see Abnormal in the first song he's already gone insane. He's putting up a facade as he's secretly plotting and planning on what to do next...
- Abnormal face is male
- Abnormal face is straight
- Abnormal face believes that he should be the only lobotomy/difficulty face due the 2.2 releasing and people making lobotomy levels
- Just the pure existence of lobotomy levels drive him mad
- Abnormal face kind of has a bounty hunter role, eliminating any other lobotomy memes that should appear
- a person only stays dead if killed directly by abnormal face
- that's why boyfriend is seen again in Moist Hills and Rocky Grounds
- in the first song, boyfriend is crushed by a stage hazard instead of being killed by abnormal, and therefore gets another attempt
- in the third song, boyfriend and girlfriend die to the fire inside the hole instead of abnormal, and why boyfriend is seen again.
- in the fourth song, boyfriend gets trapped in the cave and dies to the fire
- and why Pico is permanently dead after LOGODOMY
- abnormal face doesn't kill boyfriend directly yet because boyfriend isn't a target and decides to spare him with every encounter. abnormal face's only goal is to kill the other lobotomies so he only sees bf as a nuisance and not a threat
- he does see Pico and GF as a threat however, hence why he eliminates Pico and GF
- Abnormal face is extremely powerful and intelligent.
- Abnormal used to live inside a quaint little green house before he went insane.
- After he went insane he burned it down and dug a hole in it's place.
- He still occasionally visits it and uses it as a place of residence.
- even though it appears abnormal face turns into a god in LOGODOMY he isn't of god status but is nearly there
- when abnormal face uses his god form, it drains his energy quickly and is why he doesn't use it all the time
- once Abnormal became featured, he lost the ability to use his LOGODOMY form due to the original LOGODOMY level not being featured
- Abnormal face becomes stronger every time he eliminates someone
- Abnormal face's second favorite drink is sprite
- Abnormal face's favorite food are the fire sauce packets you can get from taco bell
- Abnormal face like spicy food in general
- Abnormal face's health icon remains unchanged as he is still being classified as a normal face by the game engine.
-The Abnormal face health icon seen in the files was something i did just for fun
- He was able to heal up between Confirmation and Darkened Grave but isn't fully healed yet
- Once he levels up to a higher rating he gets a full heal
- Abnormal nearly doesn't see the fence in Darkened Grave and almost runs into it. that is why he does that little janky ahh animation
~~ EASY FACE ~~
- Easy face is not very powerful
- Easy face is a pacifist
- Easy face is male
- Easy face is bisexual
- Easy face is confirmed dead during Moist Hills
- Easy face has very slow reaction time
- the waterfall area seen in Moist Hills is where Easy face lives (he lives behind hill)
- Easy face's favorite drink is blueberry milk
- Easy face's favorite food is cake
~~ HARDER FACE ~~
- Harder face is not as powerful as normal face but still put up a fight against him
- Harder face is male
- Harder face is aromantic
- Harder face is constantly in an angry mood
- for no reason lmao
- can occasionally be in a better mood if talking to someone he enjoys being around
- the rock placed on the ground seen in Rocky Grounds is Harder's prized possession (and it was drawn by BurpleGuy so credit to him)
- Harder placed the rock there and also lives in the cave.
- Harder face owns a rock gauntlet to keep himself safe in case anyone would attack him
- Harder face is also confirmed dead during Rocky Grounds
- Harder face's favorite food is rocky road ice cream
- Harder face's favorite drink is beer
~~ INSANE FACE ~~
- Insane face is male
- Insane face claims his sexuality is "Wind" whatever that is supposed to mean.
- Insane is confirmed dead after Burning Landscape
- Insane face likes bread
- Insane face likes boba tea
- the wind cannon that Insane is seen using was originally also a gift from Auto, but Auto hadn't given it to him yet.
- the reason why he has it is because he stole it when Auto wasn't home one day.
~~ AUTO FACE ~~
- Auto face is female (programmed to be female + has been modded to look more feminine)
- mainly because the air detected sound effect is a female voice lol
- Auto face and Abnormal were dating until he snapped and went insane
- Auto face is straight (or more like programmed to be straight)
- Auto face built Abnormal's arm cannon for self defense
- Detection is a prequel song that takes place before Flaming Pits.
- Auto will be seen again later in the mod
~~ HARD FACE ~~
- Hard is male
- Hard is pansexual
- Hard is a environmental scientist that lives isolated in a dirt-y desert
- Hard is probably the 3rd smartest out of all the difficulty faces right behind Auto and Abnormal
- Hard has a nuke designed by Auto and built by himself just for emergencies
- Hard isn't a pacifist but isn't much stronger than Easy
- Hard was the one to find and bury the bodies of Easy, Harder, and Insane. Hence why you can see their graves in Darkened Grave
- (left foreground is Harder's, right foreground is Insane's)
- Hard doesn't have a grave since he was the ones to bury the others, leaving no one to bury his body
- In the background of the Confirmation cutscene, you can see a letter written by Extreme Demon warning Hard of Abnormal
- As well as a letter from Medium Demon and one of Hard's complaints to MD stapled back onto the wall
- In Hard's background throughout the song, you can see a cork board used by Hard to help discover the fallen difficulties corpses
- Hard and Harder are cousins!
- Although they are related, they don't keep in touch often
- I decided to make them related since their names are so similar lmao
~~ N/A FACE ~~
- N/A is genderfluid but prefers they/them, is okay with he/him
- N/A is aromantic
- N/A (in their song) is actually the vengeful ghost of N/A who had passed mysteriously years ago.
- Their ghost has been re-awakened due to Abnormal's rampage
- N/A's death was only known by a few difficulties (Abnormal being one who didn't know)
- All the Demons, Auto, Insane and Hard knew of N/A's death
- The difficulties who knew told the others that N/A had moved away
- Auto knew but decided to not tell Abnormal that N/A had passed
- N/A (despite being dead themself) is mourning the loss of their old friends at the start of the song
- they have only so much time before their soul is dragged back to the underworld so once boyfriend accidentally intervenes, they slowly become more angry
- N/A became so angry with boyfriend that they nearly sent his soul to the underworld before Abnormal interrupted
- their goal was to do some damage to Abnormal to give the others a chance to fight but boyfriend wasted their remaining time
- The reason why the others don't come back as vengeful ghosts is because they didn't have the strength/will as N/A to come back for a small period of time
- They can be seen briefly above their graves due to N/A's influence during the song but are not physical
- N/A was great friends with Easy
- N/A was also good friends with Insane
- N/A was only friends with Hard and Harder
- N/A had occasionally talked to Abnormal but not often
~~ ETC ~~
- in this universe RobTop = god
- so instead of saying "oh my god" you would say "oh my rob"
- The background during Hard's song is pixelated ON PURPOSE
- I don't wanna see a million comments about the background being pixelated :sob:
- geometry dash levels in this universe are actually locations you can visit
- Abnormal used to be a normal difficulty face and was in a relationship with Auto. Then one day on December 19th something changed. Geometry Dash 2.2 had just released and something inside of abnormal snapped. Just the pure existence of lobotomy levels made him go insane. And unfortunately the week before Auto had gifted him an arm canon for self defense. Now he believes he should be the only lobotomy and is actively hunting the others. Including. Auto.
- the composer for Detection v2 (Gamerzone) refused to use the normal chromatic i made so he made his own
- we decided that he sounds different because he hasn't gone insane yet
- before he went insane he sounded a little more normal
- after he went insane he sounds abnormal
- Abnormal would have killed Boyfriend at the end of Darkened Grave but decided not to since he saw how messed up BF was after knowing about GF's Death
- Abnormal is amused by his suffering and wants to see how much farther he can go since BF is not a threat to him.
- Go check out the funkipedia page!! It has answers to a LOT of asked questions.
~~ Fun Facts by Areseem ~~ (may or may not be canon lmao)
- Abnormal
- Abnormal likes making LOADS of Fire puns for absolutely no reason.
- In hide and seek, Abnormal would like to make holes in the ground in non-obvious spots, and when the seeker gives up, he yells "FIRE IN THE HOLE!" to let the seeker know where he is.
- Abnormal's roasts hit twice as harder for no reason.
- Easy
- Easy likes to do pranks all relating to water. I think it's obvious why it's all water related. (Normal easily gets mad at Easy for that lmao)
- Easy's favorite location to visit is TIDAL WAVE. He struggles trying to navigate the place though.
- Easy loves water balloons... a little too much.
- Harder
- When skipping rocks across bodies of water, Harder does it perfectly every time... I mean he likes rocks so i guess that makes se-
- Harder's home is a comedically unnecessarily large boulder in a cave. Why? No one knows.
- Harder has a stone figure of himself in his home for some odd reason.
- Insane
- Everyone sometimes think Insane is "Insane" for some of his theories of what would happen in the future.
- Insane uses his Wind Cannon like a Tf2 Rocket jump sometimes.
- Insane's Wind Cannon can shoot as fast as a M61 Vulcan (gatling gun).
- Auto
- Auto likes watching Game Theory a lot. She likes Matpat's theories.
- Primarily because of the "Air Detected" line Auto says, this actually helps as she can detect any changes in the Air. Either good or bad.

Gameplay Mechanics[]
- Health Drain: Starting from Entwined Fate (excluding Detection), whenever Abnormal sings, he drains the player's health. As he gets more powerful, the health drain also becomes stronger. Fortunately, this cannot kill the player. N/A also performs this mechanic in Darkened Grave right before being killed, and so does Colon in Full Stop Punctuation (in Colon difficulty).
- Additionally, in that Darkened Grave section, N/A prevents the player from gaining health when singing.
- Screen Shaking: Starting from Entwined Fate (excluding Detection), whenever Abnormal sings, the screen shakes moderately.
- Bullet Notes: In Entwined Fate, these special notes appear on the player's chart. Missing them will cause the player to take a lot of damage. Hitting them also gives the player more health than a normal note would.
- Lobotomy Notes: In Entwined Fate in Hell difficulty, these special notes appear on the player's chart. Hitting them causes the player to lose health equal to a quarter of their max health (before the Fate Confirmed update, it used to be half of the max health). Also applies to Flaming Pits Legacy/Flaming Pits (v2)'s Hell diffculty.
- Super Laser: Throughout Entwined Fate, LOGODOMY will occasionally fire a laser at Pico. Getting hit by this laser is an instant game over, so the player is required to dodge it by pressing the space bar. The time frame between the warning and the attack varies between 1 and 1.5 seconds (or in the Breezy version, between 1 and 2 seconds). However, exclusively to Hell Mode, once the energy meter is empty, the time frame is reduced to seven tenths of a second (or 0.7 seconds).
- Fake Timer: During Entwined Fate and FIMH (both difficulties), a fake song timer is shown, misleading the player into either thinking the song is going to end (for Entwined Fate) or thinking the song has just started (for FIMH).
- During Entwined Fate, the timer acts as a green bar replacing the health bar (which is now located at the top left corner of the screen). Said bar progressively runs out until 2:34 of gameplay, where the general green colors of the song become lighter (making the Lobotomy Notes harder to see) and the song still doesn't end.
- Before the Fate Confirmed update, the timer used to go into negative values and drops down after 2:30 of gameplay.
- During FIMH it originally tells the player there is much more time left until the last 2 seconds of the song where the real time left is revealed.
- No Health Bar (Removed): Prior to the Fate Confirmed update, during Entwined Fate, the health bar used to be hidden while the character icons weren't, which may confuse the player during gameplay. It was removed due to the new Pico health bar being added.
- Health Reset: At the start of both the Breakdown and the POV sections of Rocky Grounds, the health bar is reset to its default state.
- Rock Notes: During the Breakdown section of Rocky Grounds, these special notes appear on the player's chart. Missing them removes 1/40 of the player's full health (or before the Fate Confirmed update, a quarter of the player's full health).
- Lazer Notes: During the Breakdown section of Rocky Grounds, these special notes appear on Abnormal's (invisible) chart. When hit, the player's health is drained faster, but like with the health drain mechanic above, it cannot kill the player.
- Cannot Die: During Boyfriend's part after the Breakdown section of Rocky Grounds and the final duet in Confirmation, the player is unable to die, no matter how many times the player misses. The only way to get a Game Over in these sections is by pressing the reset button.
- Strum Flipping: When switching between Girlfriend and Insane throughout Breezy Plains, the strumlines also swap positions. This is purely for cosmetic purposes and does not affect gameplay, but may throw off the player.
- Wind Notes: During Breezy Plains, after Insane grabs his Wind Cannon, these notes start appearing on the player's chart. These notes, when missed, deals less damage to the player than a regular note. It also makes the camera zoom a little bit, for cosmetic purposes.
- Screen Tilting: During Burning Landscapes, the screen tilts left and right more and more throughout the song, making the notes harder to read.
- Spinning Arrows: During Darkened Grave and Full Stop Punctuation (in Colon difficulty), the arrows are constantly spinning and are at different angles until Abnormal comes. The spinning also gains magnitude and speed as Darkened Grave progresses, which might confuse the player.
- Window Movement: From the lyrics section of Darkened Grave and until N/A's death, the game window moves in a slow circle which might confuse the player.
- Dash Notes: This note mechanic appears in Full Stop Punctuation and Dash. There are two versions of this note, one good and one bad.
- Good Dash Notes: Must be hit. Gives the player more health than a regular note does. Instakills when missed.
- Bad Dash Notes: Must be avoided. Instakills when hit.
- Window displacement: During Gravy Shadows, the game window and the screen's rotation constantly change position and size at each beat, making it difficult to read the gameplay.

Trivia (General)[]
- Most of the difficulties' voice lines originate from MasterKabaN's "Lobotomy Completed" video (with the exception of "FIRE IN THE HOLE" and "Water On The Hill" which originate from Geometry Dash's audio library sound effects.
- Lobotomy (Flaming Pits v1) was originally as a freeplay song for Cooldudecrafter's currently WIP mod, Vs. Chaos. But due to the large popularity that received its showcase, FIRE IN THE HOLE became a separate mod.[10]
- There used to be some instances of other mods' sprites being used, which were replaced with original assets.
- Pico's sprites for Logodomy (the old version of Entwined Fate) as well as the bullet notes were taken from Friday Night Funkin': Mario's Madness.[11] alongside the old fire sprites seen in Moist Hills.[12]
- Before the Breezy update, during the second half of Moist Hills, BF used alternate nervous sprites by UrJust2Ez4Me, while GF used Vs. Tabi sprites previously uploaded by joaovitormanhanini10.[12]
- Until the Breezy update, the pause menu music was the main menu music from Geometry Dash.
- Despite being a Psych Engine mod, FIRE IN THE HOLE uses the Forever Engine UI.
- In the v6 update, a cutscene will show how Boyfriend, Girlfriend and Pico got inside Geometry Dash.[13]
- The Extreme Demons seen in Flaming Pits and Moist Hills are referred as the Extreme Twins. The right one seen in Flaming Pits is the same one seen during Moist Hills.[14]
- Boyfriend's death animation in Flaming Pits and Game Over starting animation in Full Stop Punctuation and Dash is directly taken from Geometry Dash, that being Death Effect 14.
- Boyfriend was killed by the level during Flaming Pits, not by Abnormal. Hence why he respawned afterwards.[15]
- In Entwined Fate, there are various references to the Geometry Dash level LOGODOMY.
- The background and ground are similar to the ones seen in the original level.
- The UI is a direct reference to the one seen in the Geometry Dash, with the player's health bar now being the singing health bar and LOGODOMY's health bar being the timer.
- The fake timer mechanic is also a reference to the final event in the Geometry Dash level LOGODOMY, which is when LOGODOMY's health bar is depleted and gives the hardest sequence of attacks for the player to avoid, along with the whole background turning into lighter shades of green.[18]
- Pico would've managed to kill Abnormal if he had survived a little longer against his LOGODOMY form, and waited for him to revert back.[19]
- Pico's head and Girlfriend's shoe despawned after Abnormal throws them in Moist Hills and Confirmation respectively as they were picked up as items.[20]
- During all Story Mode songs after Entwined Fate (besides Detection), the text "FIRE IN THE HOLE" replaces various text elements of the GUI after a certain point.
- During Moist Hills, Rocky Grounds, Breezy Plains, Confirmation, and Darkened Grave, that text replaces the song name and all the ratings (besides the miss count) when Abnormal appears.
- During Burning Landscapes, the ratings are replaced with this text from the start, however the song name isn't. That is however changed when Abnormal comes back, and that moment also replaces the cover credits, the miss count, and if active, the Botplay text with said text.
- Additionally, during Confirmation, after Abnormal is revealed to have survived the nuke, the window name, and if active, the Botplay text are replaced with the text as well as the others.
- The 7th and 8th panels from the Moist Hills cutscene were removed due to not fitting with the new song anymore and not having enough room for it in the song's ending.[21]
- Girlfriend didn't try to stop Abnormal during Moist Hills because she's stupid.[22]
- Burning Landscapes is the only song to not feature winning icons for both characters.
- This might be because of the winning icon script not functioning properly when Abnormal's winning icon is spawned in. This may be fixed in a later update as the source code could be edited to allow them to do so.
- The player seen in the burning balloon in the Burning Landscapes background died after the events of the song, but respawned the next day.[23]
- Detection was originally a secret song for the Breezy update before the update plans were changed.[24]
- The fact Detection takes place will be made more clear in the hotfix update.[25]
- Confirmation takes place one day after Breezy Plains.[26]
- Boyfriend lost his microphone after Rocky Grounds since he tried digging through the rocky walls with it with no success, and it broke because of that.[27]
- During Confirmation, Abnormal's scroll speed is 30% higher than the player's, and his strumline is shaking.
- Abnomal's strumline was originally supposed to shake from Burning Landscapes onwards, however due to not being able to be done in time, this effect is used from Confirmation onwards.[28]
- Boyfriend's miss poses after Abnormal shows up in Confirmation and the entirety of Darkened Grave are a reference to Yourself from Hit Single's shrunken appearance.
- Boyfriend was killed by the airstrike during Confirmation, not by Abnormal, which is why he respawns for Darkened Grave.[29]
- As seen in the storyboard, the camera was originally supposed to zoom on Hard during the final section in Confirmation, however due to technical difficulties this idea was discarded.[30]
- Confirmation and Darkened Grave take place on the same day, with Confirmation happening in the morning and Darkened Grave happening near midnight.[31]
- Darkened Grave is the only song where Boyfriend appears and doesn't die at some point.
- The health bar is drained near the end of Darkened Grave to make a dramatic ending to the song and because Boyfriend is depressed.[32]
- N/A's song was originally planned to be a cover of Terminated from Vs. OURPLE GUY, however after it was decided that covers will no longer be used, this idea was discarded.[33]
- The "....png" image found in files which was also used as a teaser is an image made to be found in the files and doesn't hint at anything in particular.[34]
- All covers were removed in the Fate Confirmed update, since these were replaced by original songs. However Burning Landscapes v1 and Flaming Pits v2 stayed in the files being accessed through the chart editor due to being remixes and also for being highly requested by the community to not be gone from the mod.[35]
- Gravy Shadows reuses the default background from Friday Night Funkin' week 1.
- A 2025 april fools build was planned but was scrapped due to the developers not doing much for it.[36]
- One of its songs was supposed to be based on Geosongs' Baby Geometry Dash Song.[37]
- Here is some trivial information applicable for every difficulty face (or lobotomy):
- All of the remaining ones after Burning Landscapes are aware of Abnormal's rampage in prior weeks.[38]
- All permanently dead difficulties are sent to the Underworld.[25]
- They all have a checkpoint in front of their house, and Boyfriend and Girlfriend respawn in them since they aren't Geometry Dash cubes, which confuses the game. However, Abnormal cannot access these checkpoints due to them being locked.[39]
- They can all float, and Abnormal is seen higher than Harder and Insane during their respective weeks because Abnormal just likes to float higher.[40]
- Their personalities are based on their appearance, but they are capable of feeling different emotions.[41]
- Most of them know where each other live, but Abnormal doesn't.[42]
- They speak perfect english.[43]
- They have a mental age around 20 years.[44]
- They're all 5'11 in height compared to Boyfriend.[45]
- RobTop created them in the same order as they were added in Geometry Dash, with the exception of Demon difficulties being created first.[46]
- Their hands appear and disappear in a similar fashion to Among Us characters.[47]
- They can carry objects and seemingly making them come out of nowhere as they have an inventory system similar to Minecraft.[48]
- They can "play" Geometry Dash levels just like players, hence why they can respawn after death.[16]
- Their bodies take much longer to decay than for humans, especially for the demon difficulties.[49]
- Despite popular belief, the white part in their eyes isn't their pupils but their eye glimmers.[50]
- Here is some trivia for every demon difficulty face:
- They will all appear in the mod, however it wasn't confirmed which ones are going to be singing (besides at least one of the Extreme Demons and Easy Demon).[51]
- They typically live in forests.[52]
- They don't celebrate their birthdays due to having very long lifespans.[53]
- They are probably hundreds of years old.[54]
- Medium Demon trivia:
- Before Abnormal went crazy, he was the least liked out of all difficulty faces.[55]
- He sometimes makes graffiti on trees near his location.[56]
- He plays electric guitar best out of all difficulties.[57]
- He performs non-Friday Night Funkin' rap best out of all difficulties.[58]
- Him and Insane Demon are right-handed while Hard Demon is left-handed.[59]
- Hard Demon can do Minecraft parkour best out of all difficulties.[57]
- Hard Demon is the laziest out of all difficulties.[60]
- In the FIRE IN THE HOLE universe Geometry Dash players are just their cubes, and difficulties rarely interact with them.[26]
- The locations seen in the mod don't exist in Geometry Dash, however real levels do exist in the mod.[63]
- The locations Abnormal burnt are now deserted.[25]
- In the mod, ratings show how powerful someone is.[64]
- Difficulties are the only characters that are normally able to be rated, however players can get rated if RobTop directly grants it to them.[65]
- The currency used in FIRE IN THE HOLE is mana orbs, similar to Geometry Dash.[66]
- Countries don't exist in the mod as all characters live in the Geometry Dash world. However, some characters can still have accents when speaking.[67]
- The "FRIDAY NIGHT FUNKIN'" letters in the current logo were originally for a different Friday Night Funkin' mod logo LeNinethGames was working on but he then forgot about it and reused it for FIRE IN THE HOLE.[68]
- The content in the April Fools update was put in the main mod's files as GamerZone wanted the content of the April Fools update in Freeplay, but Cooldudecrafter declined, which resulted in that.[69]
- KetchupTheComposer was originally the composer for Rocky Grounds v2, but since she was going through a music block, she was replaced by GladeOAC and Tricklor.[70]
- Rocky Grounds v2 was entirely made within a week.[71]
- The Confirmation cutscenes storyboard was made on May 5th while the one for Darkened Grave was made on May 14th.[72]
