Boyfriend (boy-frend) is the protagonist of Friday Night Funkin' and main playable character of the mod. He ends up being used by Gaster as a possible vessel, but given his stubbornness, it's hard to imagine that the doctor will be able to make him give in.

Boyfriend uses his appearance from ZERO's reanimation, however having more vibrant colors and wearing the Heart Locket around his neck. When rapping against Murder!Sans, he has a serious expression with a more "dead" color scheme. Prior to the cancelled build, Boyfriend used his appearance from SereBeat's reanimation.

- Inexplicably, Boyfriend ends up receiving the Heart Locket after entering the Underground, even though he is quite far away from the item's location.

Papyrus (/pəˈpaɪrəs/pə-PY-rəs) is one of the main characters in Undertale, found in Snowdin alongside his older brother, Sans. Possessing great self-confidence, he aspires to become a highly esteemed member of the Royal Guard.
He's the opponent of the song NYEH HEH HEH, and singing with Sans in the songs Double Bone and Drop Pop Calcium.
Appearance[]
Papyrus exhibits some anatomical deviations from a typical skeleton, featuring a notably large skull, arms, and legs. His mouth forms a toothy grin. For his "battle body", he wears white armor with golden trims, complemented by a red scarf, red boots, and red gloves (also adorned with gold trims). Certain lines on his armor and boots allude to Starman. He holds a microphone in his right hand.
As the song progresses beyond its slow beginning, Papyrus puts on three sunglasses; one on his face and two on each shoulder.

- Cool Guy: When Papyrus wears his glasses and the beat intensifies, Boyfriend and Papyrus flash the screen with the color of a note they are hitting.

Sans (/sænz/) is one of the main characters in Undertale, encountered in the second area known as Snowdin. He is the brother of Papyrus and is renowned for his laziness.

Sans maintains his familiar appearance as a short skeleton with a big smile. He sports a blue hoodie with a light gray hood, complemented by a white shirt. His attire includes black shorts with two white lines on each side, as well as pink slippers paired with white socks. In his left hand, he holds a microphone, while the other hand remains nestled within the pocket of his hoodie, except in his left pose.
Gameplay Mechanics[]
- Shaking Notes: After singing a leitmotif of Megalovania at the start of Bonely One, Sans makes the notes shake for a few seconds.
- Circle of Bones: In Not Enough, Sans surrounds Boyfriend with bones. The player must press space until Boyfriend breaks the bones with his microphone. This is not random, and a sign appears in the middle of the screen when this happens.
- In-Battle: After one half of Not Enough is completed, Sans changes the background to the in-battle theme of Undertale. Bones can still appear to surround Boyfriend.

- Contrary to popular belief, Sans is unable to frown. The closest instance ever seen is during his demise in the Genocide Route or when Flowey begins to take everyone's souls in the Pacifist Route, causing his cheerful expression to swiftly shift to a state of shock or worry.
- Sans and Papyrus have slight differences in their bone structures; Sans possesses more rounded bones, while Papyrus's bones are flatter on the top and bottom.
- Sans's choice of footwear has been a subject of mystery, as various depictions exist across different products:
- In the underworld sprite, Sans appears to be barefoot.
- In the in-battle sprite, he is portrayed wearing pink slippers, as seen in this mod and commonly featured in merchandise.
- An alternate version of the slippers appears in the overworld sprite, where they turn white and are considered the canonical representation [11].
- In the Steam Trading Card version, Sans is depicted wearing blue untied sneakers with white accents.

Chara Dreemurr, or just Chara (/ˈkærə/ KARR-ə[13]), is the first human to fall into the underground in Undertale. After her death, she is reborn with demonic powers, poised for acts of murder. Boyfriend doesn't seem scared, however.
Appearance[]
Chara appears as a small child with short brown hair, faded pink cheeks, red dots in place of eyes, and a simple smile. At her own will, she can change her eyes to a black and red color or alter her face to a black color while keeping her eyes bright. She doesn't seem to have a visible tongue or teeth when using this power.
She wears a green sweater with long sleeves, featuring a yellow line in the middle, and dark brown shorts paired with pointy boots of the same color. She also holds a knife with a black handle in her right hand. When disguised, she is accompanied by a hamster named "chamoy" wearing a Sans cosplay, originating from a meme.
In the playable version, her SOUL appears outside of her body, and she sways back and forth in her poses. She appears to be shorter and exhibits brighter colors.
Gameplay Mechanics[]
- No more than 10 misses...: The player receives an exclusive game over screen when 10 notes have been missed.
- The Real Knife: Chara can attack like Sans, the difference is that the player must press exactly when she is finishing the animation to avoid it.

Killer!Sans is an alternative version of Sans from the AU Something New, also known as Killertale. He possesses similar powers to Frisk or Chara, having given up on trying to be the savior of a timeline that has been destroyed multiple times.
Story[]
Killer!Sans has the same story, but with slight variations in interpretation, yet they all share a common theme. Killertale recounts the history of numerous genocide routes executed by Chara. After some time, Chara attempts to persuade Sans to join her. Sans initially refuses, but after the 179th persuasion, he begins to believe that it is acceptable. He proceeds to kill Flowey, Grillby, and even his own brother Papyrus, gradually losing his sanity and emotions. Together with Chara, he annihilates everyone in the underground, leaving behind only despair and screams, until he finally reaches the level of power possessed by Chara. Somehow, Killer regains his memories and feelings, prompting him to stop.

Killer!Sans bears a resemblance to his regular counterpart in terms of anatomy and shorts, but his appearance is more unnerving. He dons a grayish version of the hoodie, with the hood appearing more yellow, reflecting the number of routes he has taken. His shirt is pure black, featuring a red "Retry" button at the center. His eyes lack pupils and constantly emit a dark liquid.
Gameplay Mechanics[]
- Bloody Notes: In EEEEChrome, notes with more or transparency, red color and dropping blood appear, and insta-kill if hit. Some words can be made with the notes, making the notes more visible:

Murder!Sans, more known as Dust!Sans, is an upcoming character that was teased at the end of the Story Mode, accompanied by leaks of his two songs.
Story[]
Murder!Sans plays a more significant role in his AU compared to the original Sans. Dusttale depicts a history where The Player engages in multiple genocide routes, anticipating something new to happen. After countless repetitions, a change finally occurs.
After decades, or possibly even longer, Sans regains full recollection of everything. Every ounce of pain, every act of killing, and every moment of silence. Frustrated with futile attempts to stop The Player through alternative means, he resolves to kill the entire Underground, seeking to accumulate enough power to permanently eliminate the human threat. In the process, he even takes the life of his own brother, causing him to descend into madness and experience haunting hallucinations of a ghostly Papyrus by his side.

Murder!Sans appears similar to his normal counterpart, sporting a blue hoodie layered over a white sweater and black shorts. However, his colors appear significantly faded and darkened. He wears blue and white sneakers without any laces, and his hood is worn over his head.

- He likes to kill the human in very cruel ways, taking more hits on his sanity.
- Phantom!Papyrus still haunts Murder!Sans, even if the latter was successful.
- The creator of Dusttale has stated that Sans does in fact know that the phantom is not real, but still talks to the hallucination for the minimum sanity.
- According to the creator of Dusttale, Murder!Sans is unable to fall in love with anyone in his universe, due to lack of feeling and high fuel of determination.
- The only monster he regrets killing is Papyrus, since he is his brother, and all the strong relationships they had made over the years before the human came.
- Much of the fandom confuses Sans for being the main antagonist of Dusttale. In reality, he is truly the protagonist of the AU, as Sans is the lead/main character and most of the AU is from his perspective.
- Sans's proper name is "Murder!Sans". However, using "Dust!Sans" is acceptable.
- Sans' shoes are from the Steam Trading Card.
- His eyes are actually a reference to the human souls: Sans' normal eyes are white, but in-battle, are cyan and yellow (Patience and Justice).
- Murder, by the other side, has cyan and red (Patience and Determination) colors. The purple color is due to the mixture of cyan and red, that is, he does not have the soul or power of perseverance. Let it be very clear.

Disbelief!Papyrus was s an upcoming character seen on the main menu when you select "Credits". He comes from the AU of the same name.
Appearance[]
Disbelief! Papyrus looks relatively similar to his normal counterpart. However, he wears the jacket of his deceased brother and has a clear expression of sadness, likely due to the death of his loved ones.
Story[]
After numerous genocide routes, Sans, who has grown tired of watching his friends die repeatedly, confronts the human at the end of Snowdin instead of Papyrus, hoping to kill them when they have low LV. Unfortunately, he was unsuccessful and was killed. Papyrus eventually learned of his brother's fate and was instead the one who witnessed the massacre of his friends, and as a result, the belief he had that the human could be a better person wavered.

Frisk is the playable human and main protagonist of Undertale, being the eighth human to fall in the Underground. They were a intended character for a version of the mod.
Appearance[]
Frisk is a somewhat flattened human with short, checkered brown hair. They always wear a neutral or blank expression, depending on the user’s point of view. They wear a blue shirt with lilac lines, brown pants, and shoes. In this interpretation, they equip the golden heart necklace and what appears to be a flute, but it is more plausible to be their stick.

- Frisk does not speak for the whole game, but the characters do interpretations off their expressions.
- Frisk's name comes from various possible words:
- "Frisk" is the Swedish and Norwegian word for "healthy," and the Danish word for "fresh."
- "Frisky" means "playful and full of energy."
