VS. Impostor is a Friday Night Funkin' modification created by Clowfoe, directed by the IMPOSTORM Team and part of the Innersloth staff, revolving around the popular smash hit 2018 indie video game, Among Us. The mod contains numerous references to not only the game itself, but also several other variants from the community of the game.
The main antagonists of the modification are Impostors, the main antagonists of Among Us. The objective of The Impostors is kill all the Crewmates and sabotage the setting, while attempting to blend in with the other crewmates and avoiding ejection. Some of the Crewmates appear as opponents.

Clowfoe's Development of VS. Impostor itself began on April 18th, 2021. At the time, his team was developing another mod titled "Vs. Jefftastic". Adam McHummus, Jefftastic's composer, came to Clowfoe and proposed the official release of a "fake leaked version" with the Mario content suddenly replaced with Among Us instead. Another developer named _emi had supposedly already been making sprites for an Among Us crewmate, so the idea was quickly in motion. After a week, the mod was after seven days completed and released to the public to moderate success.

Despite of V4 being confirmed to being the last update, during the interview in between Clowfoe and the known YouTuber Metatera, it was announcement that the mod would receive a V5 update around the final day of the month (March 30th, 2023). Alongside with the date update being shown on the video "Vs Impostor V5 Teaser video" by Clowfoe. After the news, a premiere trailer was plan to being settle on the confirmed data, however, it was delayed by two times, one for March 31st,[1] and later for April 1st.[2] At same time that was happening, the song "Plague-Energy" was also to being planned to being streamed in the same day as the update release. During that time, MonotoneDoc released the video ((APRIL FOOLS)) VS Impostor - Identity Crisis WITH LYRICS (+ OFFICIAL V5 SNEAK PEEK), an early April Fools video released to trick users into thinking that the update wouldn't be an April Fools joke.
The trailer when released, was made for people to download it on the official mod's website. Afterwards, is confirmed to being only a April Fools mod, being settle the "what if..." situation when the mod's future content has still the same style of the V1 style release, alongside with a extra week featuring JADS[3] (or Lime Green[citation needed]) as the main opponent. The supposed upcoming song "Plague-Energy" is also shown as a switch-and-bait, in which in the suspected drop in 0:12, the video changes to a bunch of memes.
The update is a shoutout to Loggo, one of the mod's developers, who did the majority of the update's work. And being confirmed to the update to being supposed being the last, without any hotfix due to the entire team being burned out from all the mod's work.[4]

Due to V4's anniversary coming up, SquidBoy84 wanted to reignite VS. Impostor hype, so with the help from a few new members made the small update.
The update is a modpack to Psych Engine. Some major differences include the removal of Impostor Trouble due to SquidBoy84 not knowing how to make 2 characters sing, and the addition of SquidBoy84's secret 3-song week.Story[]
Note: The information below originates from BlueStopSign's video on the mod (Archived link), mainly gained by interviews from the directors of the mod.
Week 1 takes place on the planet Polus, where Boyfriend and Girlfriend are talking. Suddenly, they hear a gunshot, revealed to be Red killing a Crewmate. GF tries to report him but Red bite off the report loudspeaker along with her hand. As GF regenerates her hand, BF then throws a mic at red, hurting him. Nonetheless, they start the first song.
After the first song, Red is seen being confused about reloading his gun with BF watching, making the impostor stare at boyfriend. After managing to reload the gun, Red kills GF, leaving BF in a sad state. However, despite this, Boyfriend realizes he forgot about something. He needed to start the second song! So, they start it.
After the second song, Red becomes annoyed with Boyfriend and kills him on the spot. Red's victory is short lived however, as BF and GF come back as ghosts to scare Red. The scared impostor begs for the couple not to hurt him, claiming he has "a husband and kids at home" (referring to Green and Yarlowmando). The final song then begins.
As the final song ends, BF's body is reported by one of the Crewmates and a meeting takes place (Green notably hides a knife behind his back). After an argument, Black says it's Red. The impostor objects to this, saying he was afk. His lie doesn't seem to work though, as Red gets ejected and Week 1 comes to an end.
On Mira HQ, a Crewmate is doing a task in storage is presented. When he looks up however, an Impostor kills them. This is revealed to be Green from the round on Polus as he exits the storage room and sees none other than Boyfriend and Girlfriend. BF, not noticing Green, claims that they managed to get away from Red (even though Red killed them both). Green then approaches them acting as a Crewmate.
After the first song however, Green drops his façade, and mocks BF for rapping against him instead of calling a meeting and ejecting him. Boyfriend claims he sings better than Green, making the impostor angry. During the second song, Green occasionally sabotages the lights.
At the end of Lights Down, Boyfriend and Girlfriend escape through a vent and end up in the Reactor room, where Green follows them.
After the third song, Boyfriend is seen on the floor as the reactor is about to blow. BF gets up and the lights go out once more like in the second song. A glowing eye, presumably Green knowing he'll be voted out in his Parasite form, appears behind BF and the reactor finally blows up, leading to the final song.
The second week ends with Boyfriend presumably falling to his death, giving the victory to Green.
In the Airship, White is shown exiting a vent. He then sees Yellow being followed by BF and GF, who think Yellow is another Impostor. Yellow and BF both have the same task: to sing the first song of the week, leading to just that.
Girlfriend is still suspicious of Yellow, who again states he is NOT the Impostor. The second song starts. As the song ends, Yellow is killed by White, who while in the cutscene before Oversight, then seemingly has an argument with BF before going to where Yellow once stood.
Girlfriend complains that she wants everyone to get along, so BF tricks White into thinking he’ll be their friend. The third song then starts.
White and BF are left staring at each other until Black comes and punches BF out of the window before chasing him outside the Airship.
Boyfriend presumably makes his way to the Cargo Bay, where White and Black both find him leading to the final song of Yellow's (And to an extent, White's) Week.
As the song ends, Boyfriend and Black are both sent to the Defeat Screen. It's possible Black himself teleported them here so Black can fight BF one-on-one.
Following the events of Double Kill, Black, and Boyfriend are left alone to fight on the Defeat Screen. After the intro, the room is suddenly filled with corpses of his victims (as well as a Boyfriend corpse).
In this week we meet Maroon, whose appearance looks like Hank J. Wimbleton from the Newgrounds series Madness Combat. Though in a dev stream, they say that this is not true. There was a planned cutscene where it looks like Boyfriend would have battled Player from GameToons who is immediately killed by Maroon, though it became scrapped. In the real dialogue, we see that Boyfriend is already irritated when having a "conversation" with Maroon. Maroon asks if they can hear him and "spit some HEAT!!!" thus begins the song Ashes. In the next dialogue box, he becomes irritated and calls BF a bitch, in which BF starts to ramble on how if he has to deal with one more impostor he will shoot himself. Maroon then replies "sure buddy." Then Magmatic plays.
In the next cutscene, we see Maroon, Girlfriend, and Boyfriend sitting on the other side of the table while Brown looks them on, Dave from Crewicide points at them until Orange says, "I don't know guys, this feels like an elaborate setup. I think it's Purple" to which we pan to Purple looking very menacing. Until we cut back to Brown. It was a hard decision until he votes... both of them out. To which Maroon transforms into his parasite form.
The week starts with a flashback to the Skeld where we see a grey Crewmate spending time with his son while simultaneously doing tasks. While in the middle of throwing trash, a meeting is called by Black Impostor, who votes out the grey Crewmate for no apparent reason. The Mini-Crewmate watches his dad get ejected, heartbroken. Black Impostor then walks up to Grey, as we see a passage of time with Grey getting older, with his adoptive father teaching him to kill.
We then skip to the present day on the Airship, where Boyfriend wakes up between two doors with his mic lodged in between them. Boyfriend gets up and sees Grey standing opposite of him. Grey does not speak to Boyfriend, leaving the blue-haired rapper confused and mortified by his surroundings.
After Grey and Boyfriend battle, our blue-haired friend escapes the confines of the Airship's Electrical room.
(It's worth noting that during Grey's week, Black Impostor is observing in the background)
In a scrapped cutscene, Grey and Black would have blown up the airship with Boyfriend still inside.
In the middle of an Among Us match Boyfriend and Girlfriend have a chat off-screen in the Greenhouse of MIRA HQ. Pink makes up an excuse to meet them and make friends. She insists on beginning a friendship with them and they end up making friends with her. The first song begins.
After the first song Pink asks to repeat it but they agree on starting a second song. Boyfriend and Girlfriend notice how there were no kills in the entire match for more than 10 minutes. Pink is of no suspicion to them and they think there isn't an impostor at all.
In the quick turn of events after the second song, a loud metallic banging noise can be heard and the camera focuses on the vent. Black Impostor jumps out of the vent to the surprise of everyone in the room. Gray pulls out a knife revealing his ill intent. Longus Grandus quickly disconnects from the game as Black sabotages the lights and he with Gray proceeds to go on a murdering spree, killing every crewmate standing. Pink and Gray are left alone in the room and Black is nowhere to be seen. They both seem to be the last players standing in the HQ. Pink reveals her crewmate façade to face up against Gray in the last song. She's trying her best to stand up against Gray's cruelty and the song ends with a cliffhanger.
Somehow(presumably new game), BF is back on the Airship and is in the lounge with Jorsawee. During O2, the lights go out, leaving Bf to say “WHAT THE F-”. After that event, Red Mungus appears, having killed Jorsawee. Still they continue the song.
Before Voting time, BF questions Red Mungus for killing Jorsawee right in front of him , but Red mungus told him to “SHUT THE FUCK UP, BITCH.” Warchief then walks in and see Jorsawee´s body next to Red Mungus and goes to call a meeting.
After Voting Time, Warchief, BF, and Jelquer eject Red Mungus after Warchief said; “We are going to make Red Mungus fly,” but then Red Mungus grabs Bf while falling and Warchief swears about it but then a convenient png of a grapple falls next to the two. Then the events of Turbulence cause Red Mungus to go into his parasite form. At the end of Turbulence, Red Mungus can´t keep up with BF, causing him to fall back.
Then in Victory, the crew are taken to the victory screen, You have won. Good Job!Boyfriend manages to survive Black, leaving the entity inside them furious and more intent on killing Boyfriend. Black then decides to hire someone to kill BF once and for all, leading to the song Identity Crisis. During the song, the shapeshifting Impostor, Monotone turns into Red, Green and Black. However despite their efforts, Boyfriend manages to evade Monotone and escape.
Black appears on screen, noting how persistent Boyfriend is to survive his wrath. Black requests a rematch against Boyfriend, then the game crashes. Once the player boots up the game, it looks normal at first, but as you go near Black´s week, the game has a glitchy filter and there is a red glow coming from the right side. This leads to the final song, Finale, where the parasite controlling Black unleashes its true form, with Boyfriend defending himself. Unfortunately, the Defeat sound is heard at the end, implying that Black killed Boyfriend. However, a scrapped cutscene reveals that Boyfriend was the victor, sending everyone back to the lobby and freeing Black from the entity's control. Unfortunately, the entity seems to have already found a new host...
Gameplay Mechanics[]
Overall, the mod has flashing red lights, which references a sabotage in the original game. Also, practice mode, difficulties, and botplay aren't present in the mod. And in the song named Lights down, at 24 seconds in it goes dark and you see a small silhouette of bf and green imposter.
- In Lights Down, the room will become dark by a sabotage and at some point, the room becomes pitch black with Green Impostor and Boyfriend's white silhouettes. This is also similar to Updike's dark effect. This effect is cosmetic and has no gameplay effects.
- In Ejected, the HUD will tilt between angles 1.2.
- In v4, there is an option to give the player a maximum of 5 misses, but you can set it as low as the regular 0.
- Up to 8 Misses was once planned as seen in a trailer.
- You also cannot die, even if you try.
- Your Combo Breaks count won't go up, no matter how many notes you miss.
- So technically, you could beat this song without hitting a single note.
Trivia[]
- VS Impostor was first concepted when Clowfoe and Adam McHummus wanted to make a fake "leaked" build for their mod, Vs. Jefftastic.[5][6][7]
- The mod was once thought to be named VS. SUS but that was quickly scrapped[8]
- Week 3 was planned to have full-fledged cutscenes, as with Week 1 and 2, though as they were "never getting finished" Loggo was asked to make them instead.
- The mod also has another deleted cutscene, where all the impostors, turning normal are all in the room lobby, and Boyfriend gives his hand out to Black, saying "GG WP MAN", with impostors complimenting Boyfriend and asking for rematches.[9]
- At the end of the cutscene Red is shown to be getting infected by the parasite that infected Black, pulling out a gun with intent to kill.
- This cutscene was later proven to still be canon by Clowfoe himself in an interview with Metatera.

- This is the first known instance[citation needed] of a pre-existing company contributing to a Friday Night Funkin' modification. In this case, Innersloth provided uncompressed vocals for use in the Henry Stickmin week.[citation needed]
- The "Impostor Animated Series" directed by Bravu and their team is an animated series canon to the events of VS. Impostor [10]
- V5 was the final update to Vs. Impostor.[11]
- This is further supported by an unused dialogue animation where yellow's child melts atop them
- However, Double Trouble was scrapped in V4 due to lack of motivation and the team wanting to get the update out on time.
- This explains why Boyfriend and Girlfriend are revived in Week 2.[13]
- Keegan has stated that the similarities are not completely intentional, but they most likely drew inspiration from Gadget Room subconsciously while making Turbulence.[16]
- At 1:04 in Sussus Moogus, the melody is a reference to an infamous remix of Dead Body Reported, commonly called "Among Us Drip Theme". This same melody is also heard in Ejected.
- At 0:45 in Sabotage, the melody is a reference to "AirPod Shotty"
- At 1:13 in Sabotage, the melody takes on the Toppat theme from another game by PuffballsUnited (member of Innersloth), The Henry Stickmin Collection.
- This is likely supposed to be The Airship Arrives from the trailer for the Airship in Among Us.
- At 1:24 in Sabotage, the beginning of the next song, Meltdown can be heard.
- The start of Sabotage is “Why you Actin Sus. Why you acting like Imposter”. at 1:34 in Sabotage, it is possible to hear the first few notes of "Show Yourself" by CG5.
- The beginning of Meltdown is likely based off of Klungo’s theme from Banjo-Tooie.
- at 0:50 in Meltdown, the song very much mirrors part of Lo-Fight from the Vs. Whitty mod. This, however, is a coincidence. [18]

- Interestingly, the BPM of the song also matches other FNF songs, like Happy from Sunday Night Suicide and Good Enough from Vs. Annie.
- This would also make for the third song planned at any point for Adam, along with Compromised Persona and the scrapped Among Us VR song.

The Shop[]
The Shop is one of the sections present in VS. Impostor. It includes skins of Boyfriend, Girlfriend, Playable Red Impostor, Playable Green Impostor, Playable Black Impostor and Pets as cosmetics that can become purchasable with Beans, working as the currency. None of the skins or cosmetics interfere with the main gameplay.
The icon of the shop is present in the main menu, under the "Gallery" and "Credits" buttons.
