Vs. Impostor: Black Betrayal is a fan-made mod owned by Hershey and currently directed by ToastBee, alongside with the Black Betrayal team. The mod adds 2 weeks with 8 songs, including the remix difficulty, alongside 4 freeplay songs and 1 hidden song that can be found via debug mode.
There was a planned spinoff called Hershey's Christmas, created as a gift to the community. Because no progress was being made and the director had too much to deal with at the time, they scrapped the mod. The songs are included in the music section.
Note: This page is currently being rebranded into Black Betrayal DX
Characters[]
Red[]
“hey cutie uwu”
― Red Impostor, Double Trouble
Red Impostor is one of the antagonists of VS. Impostor and this mod. Like VS. Impostor, him and Green are a couple and he duos with him in Double Trouble and Betrayal.
Appearance[]
Red Impostor is a red bean-shaped astronaut with floating hands. In the mod, they hold their mic in their left hand and wield a gun in their right which changes into a knife in their up pose (both of which reference kill animations in Among Us). In all of their poses, they are shown to have a mouth filled with sharp teeth in the middle of their body. They also have a sharp tongue (shown in their up pose) which is used in the Among Us kill animations to stab a crewmate.
In Betrayal, he has a stressed look on his face, and later is killed by the Black Impostor midway in the song. In Report-Edd, he doesn't have any weapons, only using his microphone.

Green[]
“stfu this is srs”
― Green Impostor, Betrayal (Blackout)
Green Impostor is one of the antagonists of VS. Impostor and this mod. Like VS. Impostor, him and Red are a couple and he duos with him in Double Trouble and Betrayal. He also raps against Boyfriend alone in Overboard and the freeplay Reactor remix.
Appearance[]
Green Impostor is a green bean-shaped astronaut with floating hands. While disguised as a crewmate, Green Impostor is shown to have various items from Among Us such as a megaphone for reporting bodies. However, in their impostor form, they wield a knife and stick their tongue out in their right pose and make a shush pose in their down pose.
During the first half of Betrayal, Green starts to look concerned. During the second half of Betrayal and when the Black Impostor kills Red, Green becomes stressed and has a nervous look on his face.
Gallery[]
Black[]
Black Impostor is one of the antagonists of VS. Impostor and the primary antagonist of this mod.
Appearance[]
Black Impostor is a black bean-shaped astronaut with floating hands. He wears an orange traffic cone on top of his head. He holds a giant, bloody knife in one hand, and a microphone in the other. When angered (or seemingly on command) he can tear open his front to reveal a massive mouth with sharp teeth and an elongated tongue. Noticeably, he is slightly larger than Red and Green, his visor is rectangular instead of circular, and a near-constant red glow emanates from it.
In the ??? Week, he looks the same but sports some blood under his cone and on his right leg. However, during the second half of Defeat B-Side and Deceived, the Black Impostor's eye glows much brighter.
In Unhinged, the Black Impostor undisguises and reveals his true form: an eldritch goo-like mass with multiple tentacles shaped like knives. Its visor is no longer connected to its body, being held by another tentacle; and his eye gets much brighter.
Trivia[]
- Including unused files, Xaphan has a grand total of 12 spritesheets.
- Xaphan has a second child called "Slate".[3]

Gameplay Mechanics[]
General[]
- Much like in the original VS Impostor, Black Impostor retains most of his traits from Defeat (with notable exceptions).
- One-miss will lead to an instant game over.
- Given the unforgiving charting in the majority of the songs, the player has the option to press 1, 2 or 3 to switch to different health mechanics for the duration of the song. The keys must be pressed while playing the song.
- Pressing 1 will turn health drain on.
- Pressing 2 will turn on normal singing mode with no additional penalties.
- The player also has the option to revert back to being killed on a miss by pressing 3.
- None of Black's insta-death mechanics work at Betrayal (Blackout); however, at Hard difficulty they work as normal. This is intentional, because the heavy charting coupled with the one-miss penalty would make the song extremely difficult to play.[5]
- Additionally, Betrayal has an insta-death grace period between 2:23 to 2:26, where the chart has a high density of notes.
- Because of the way Report-Edd is scripted, the player cannot switch modes when Black shows up.
- Forced middle scroll (the player cannot see the notes that Black sings).
- Statistics are hidden until the very end. This means the player will not know their accuracy percentage or any misses they may have gotten until the song is over.
- Given the unforgiving charting in the majority of the songs, the player has the option to press 1, 2 or 3 to switch to different health mechanics for the duration of the song. The keys must be pressed while playing the song.
- One-miss will lead to an instant game over.
Song-Specific[]
- In Double Trouble (Blackout), Betrayal (Blackout) and Overboard (Both Difficulties) there are knife notes that the player must intentionally miss. Hitting one will take half the player's health off.
- In Double Trouble (Blackout), there are also bullet notes that the player must hit. Missing one will do the same as knife notes would do - take half of the player's health off.
- In Overboard (Blackout), the lights will slowly dim out due to a sabotage, covering in darkness a good chunk of the player's screen, including the strumline. The player must hit electricity notes in order to regain visibility.
- The electricity note's effect does not stack.
- In Betrayal (Blackout), Black spawns bloody knife notes. Hitting one will interrupt a combo, cause your accuracy to drop; and if the player has insta-death off, take away half of the player's death.
- In Unhinged, no insta-death mechanic is present. Instead, there is a half-filled, invisible health-bar that the player cannot see nor fill. Getting roughly 20 misses will lead to a game over.
- Just like other Black Impostor songs, the player is still forced to use middle scroll, and most of the HUD is still not present.
- Top Ten Sus is a troll song. Heavy screenshake, extreme chart - it is basically impossible to clear by normal means.
Visual[]
- In Skinwalker, whenever there's a static noise, the background will switch colours.
- Midway through the song, everything goes pitch-black before the perspective changes to third-person.
Trivia (General)[]
- In V1.5, they used images from VS. Impostor with permission.[6]
- The showcase videos by Literal Scissor show a couple unused mechanics:
- In Double Trouble, despite Boyfriend saying "ayo who that black guy in the background", Black is never seen in the dialogue or background; only in the Blackout remix.
- Red and Green do not have bones after being killed by the Black Impostor. This is most likely intentional, because they are both impostors.
Leitmotifs[]
- In Betrayal:
- ...at 0:00-0:25 and 1:38-2:02, it references "Sussus Moogus" from VS. Impostor.
- ...at 0:26-0:50, it references "Monochrome" from Friday Night Funkin' Lullaby.
- ...at 0:50-1:02, it references the Among Us Drip.
- ...at 1:02-1:38, it references the song "Danger" from VS. Impostor.
- ...at 2:25-3:13, it references "Lights Down" from VS. Impostor.
- In Report-Edd, at 0:00-0:01, a short motif of Among Us Drip is referenced.
- In Defeat B-Side, at 2:55-3:07, it references "Danger" from VS. Impostor.
- In the upcoming song Firestorm:
- ...at 0:43-0:54, it references "Ejected" from VS. Impostor.
- ...at 0:54-1:05 and 3:02-3:13, it references "Monochrome" from Friday Night Funkin' Lullaby.
- ...at 1:58-2:09, it references "Sussus Moogus" from VS. Impostor.
