TRIGGER WARNING!

This article contains content that may bring users with past trauma, to something that might cause a physical and/or mental reaction. Viewer discretion is advised!

Reason: Opheebop's idle animation flashes white occasionally. Hunter & Ava's idle flashes Hunter from the top-left to the bottom-right, plus Glitch’s new and old sprites can be a little flashy. Also, Glitch and unused Connor’s voice can be a bit ear-grating. Finally, the new version of Daughter Complex scheduled to be updated has a mechanical sound in the Dad.exe's voice.

Which world should I port over to next? - Twizzly Gummy Cookie

This mod has upcoming content that is confirmed to be in development, either confirmed on a livestream, a tweet, or any other verified source of information.

Upcoming: There's going to be a huge upcoming update for the mod.

Not to be confused with Salty's Sunday Night Peppered.

Salty's Sunday Night is a mod made by Tsuraran that completely overhauls the original Friday Night Funkin' featuring different songs, characters, backgrounds, and an original story. The mod's visuals, most songs, and charts were created by Tsuraran, with three songs being composed by Maqua.

Story

In an old arcade cabinet stored away in Daddy Dearest's Basement, a group of poor souls become active during Sunday nights. 'Salty', the last soul to be trapped finally regains his memories and now embarks on a journey to find a way out of the machine...

Opheebop, the caretaker of the machine, is willing to free everyone, but she can only do so if she gets her hands on a soul...will it be Salty's?

Series Of Events

1980 - Wyatt, a young man obsessed with technology, had took his obsession too far when stumbled across an abandoned arcade cabinet in an abandoned arcade. He became the first soul to be trapped within the cabinet.

1994 - Itsumi and Connor were attending a “Year's Start” garage sale the Dearest’s were having. No one understood why they didn’t host a typical "Year's End" garage sale, but went along with it anyway. During the sale, Itsumi came across the arcade cabinet. Itsumi attempted to play the game within the cabinet, but had her soul taken into the machine. A while later, Connor (worried about Itsumi) stumbled across the arcade machine while looking for Itsumi, and ended up having his soul taken into the cabinet as well.

2000 - Hunter and Ava were sucked into the arcade cabinet at different times of the year.

  • Ava was a victim of bullying. In early 2000, a group of bullies took her to the top of a local parking garage and shoved her off the edge. The arcade machine manifested itself on the ground beneath her, and saved her life by taking her soul in before she hit the ground.
  • In late 2000, Hunter was invited to a Halloween costume party, but was unaware that the host of the party intended to poison her. During the party, she was handed a laced drink. Before she was able to take a sip, her soul was transferred into the arcade machine placed in the corner of the room.

2015 - Salty’s parents were famous musicians who had connections to Daddy Dearest. When Salty was moving out, he was gifted a backstage pass to one of Daddy Dearest’s concerts as a parting gift. During the concert's intermission, Salty and Daddy Dearest were having a chat, when Salty accidentally spilled coffee on him! Later that day, Salty was invited to the Dearest household after the concert. He was then taken and forced into the arcade cabinet.

Reception

Whether they were fans of the mod since the beginning or were introduced to it thanks to Bob, the mod has been given quite the reception.

Appearance

Opheebop appears as a black, limbless figure with two small white dot eyes. During her idle animations, she occasionally twitches, turning her lower body white and revealing a large, cheerful, smiling white mouth below her eyes for a brief period of time.

Glitch

H4HA, 0LD FR1END, L3T'5 L34V3 TH15 J01NT TH3N!
― Glitch, Terminal

Glitch is the antagonist of Week 6, titled "Glitch Out". His tracks include: "Buckets", "Logarithms", and "Terminal".

Lore

Formerly known as Wyatt, and the first soul to be sucked into the machine. Glitch is the prime example of what happens when you resist against the machine's powers too hard. While the machine was converting his soul into code, he resisted, and as a result the code started to break. This caused his body to disfigure and take on the appearance of the mascot that was on his t-shirt at the time. He had feared what would happen for attempting to resist against the machine, and the worst case scenario might have happened to him...

Appearance

Glitch is a humanoid similar in appearance to a robot. His limbs are simple black and green rectangles, and are suspended in mid-air away from each other. His head resembles a green computer monitor with a black screen. On his head are three white shapes that resemble a pair of eyes and mouth, which change color when Glitch hits a note.

During Logarithms, Glitch's right eye flashes between gray and black during his idle animation, and a glitch effect is applied to him while he sings.

During Terminal, Glitch's body becomes shattered, the bottom half of his right leg disappears, and his right eye and mouth flash between static and the "Blue screen of death". His body now twitches rapidly during his animations. All of his singing poses have his left eye show the arrow direction of the note he just sang.

Trivia

Lore

  • This is the first complete mod to star a victim of Daddy Dearest as the protagonist, featuring a unique scenario centered around it.
  • Daddy Dearest bought the arcade machine at an auction.
  • The trapped souls inside the arcade cabinet don’t age.
  • When a soul is transferred into the machine, all traces of that person are erased in the real world.
  • The arcade cabinet in Daddy Dearest's basement is the original, serving as the main hub.
  • The arcade cabinet does not have any games, it only hosts the world inside of it.
  • The souls inside the machine can die.
  • A human soul is converted into code when being transported into the machine.
    • The more a soul resists against this process, the more broken the code gets, leading to various results.
  • The world inside the machine is as big as the real world.

Characters

  • Salty and Itsumi are "just friends".
  • Salty and Manager.exe battle in Week 5, because "Salty left his wallet somewhere and couldn't pay the bill."
  • Itsumi is a "kuudere", and hides her emotions very well.
  • Hunter & Ava only have two songs, because Ava "got too embarrassed and left after song 2".
  • Hunter & Ava became "linked" due to their souls being taken in during the same year, and the similar circumstances that brought them into the machine.
  • Hunter became a ghost after resisting against the machine, because she was wearing a ghost costume at the time.
  • It was Opheebop's idea to make Hunter haunt Ava.
  • Opheebop's name is derived from Bopeebo, the first song in Friday Night Funkin'.
  • Opheebop has the ability to shapeshift. She uses this ability to change her appearance during Week 5.
  • Opheebop never acts serious, except for "when it really counts".
  • Opheebop is allowed to manifest copies of the arcade cabinet anywhere in the world.
  • Despite looking similar in appearance, it is unknown if the Henchmen in Week 4 are connected to Opheebop.
  • Opheebop is aware of other characters from other mods. Which characters she knows about have not been specified.
  • The arcade cabinet was created in order to punish Opheebop with eternal entrapment.
  • Opheebop's life is linked to the machine, meaning she is unable to leave it.
  • A "demon barrier" is what's keeping the souls inside the machine. Opheebop needs one soul to sacrifice themselves in order to break it.
    • Opheebop cannot sacrifice her own soul, since it'll kill everyone.
  • According to Tsuraran, Opheebop acts more serious in "Freedom!" because it's Salty's last song before "the soul trade."
    • The details about "the soul trade" Salty made with Opheebop will be revealed in the week 7 update, which will also act as the finale to the main storyline that was present in Salty's Sunday Night.
  • Connor was given his riot shield due to his protective nature.
  • After Connor loses against Salty, he goes off to "cry in a corner somewhere".
  • Every worker at the Cole-Verse has limited telekinetic powers. This is how Manager.exe is keeping the silly straw holding his microphone suspended in mid-air.
  • Besides Opheebop, no character in this mod has any knowledge about other Friday Night Funkin' characters, modded or otherwise. (besides Daddy Dearest).
  • According to Tsuraran, if Boyfriend were to be sucked into the machine, he "could just walk out unharmed." The reason as to why was not specified.
    • This is likely a similar case with Hating Simulator where Boyfriend merely had to deal with Spirit.
  • According to Tsuraran, the physical damage that Glitch seemingly takes is "but a scratch", likely meaning he's experienced this before and is mostly okay.

Other

  • Salty's voice were sampled from Boyfriend, specifically from Bopeebo, the first song in Friday Night Funkin'. This is NOT to be confused with the BF voice Tsuraran uses, which is sampled from FnF Week 4's high.
  • Dad.exe's voice were sampled from Daddy Dearest, also specifically from Bopeebo.
  • Itsumi's voice was sampled from Girlfriend's unused voice samples found in the Friday Night Funkin' files.
  • Hunter & Ava's voices were sampled from the Japanese voice of Laffey from Azur Lane.
  • Opheebop's voice was created and sampled by Tsuraran’s friend.
  • Connor's voice was sampled from a glitchhop vocal pack.
  • Mom.exe and Manager.exe's voices were provided by friends of Tsuraran.
  • Glitch's voice was sampled from a speech synthesizer known as Software Automatic Mouth (S.A.M.) singing "The Star-Spangled Banner".
  • All voices are autotuned with FL Studio's pitcher, an autotuning program that tunes any monophonic audio clip to any specified MIDI note. Tsu sequences all the voice clips before autotuning it.
  • The charting for most songs have correspondence to the vowels the characters sing. The left and up notes correspond to "ahh" or "ay", the down note corresponds to "ooh", and the right note corresponds to "ee". Not all voices are vowel samples.
  • All songs except Protect, Rising Star, and Logarithims follow the structure of the second half being a repeat of the first half, but harder.
  • Some NPCs in the background of Week 5 are based off of real people.
  • Two NPC's in the background of Week 5 resemble Boyfriend and Girlfriend, with the color schemes of Quote and Curly Brace from Cave Story.
  • This is the first full-blown overhaul mod, featuring new songs, characters, and scenery.
  • Several tracks have a "Beta Version" uploaded to YouTube under the title: "Salty's Sunday Night: Unsalted".
    • The beta versions of the Week 3 tracks are the only ones that have a different name than the final versions of the tracks.
    • The beta versions of the Week 3 tracks used a sample of Luigi for Connor's voice.
  • A Week 7 update is in development that will conclude the events of the main story.
  • This mod's music is available to listen to on Spotify.
  • Opheebop somewhat resembles Bob, due to both of them having simplistic, blob-like designs.
  • Buckets is the eighth song with the longest intro, being 21 seconds. The seventh is Ejected being 24 seconds. The sixth and fifth is Service Unavaliable and Bad Nun being 27 seconds. The fourth and the third are tied being Too Slow, and No Escape being 28 seconds. The second is Murder being 32 seconds. and Moderato being the longest with 48 seconds.
  • Itsumi canonically hates Electro Swing.
  • Superstar has the same melody as Best Girl.
  • The mod has been confirmed to be getting a big update that includes dialogue, redesigns, and remastered tracks. The new versions of Best Girl, Salty Love and Daughter Complex can be found on Tsu's YouTube channel. If you look at the bottom right corner at the right times on both videos, you can see that the mod will run on Forever Engine.
  • The Week 6 sprites were created by Keoiki.
  • Logarithms is a remake of a song of the same name released by maqua on SoundCloud in February 2021.
  • Salty has an uncanny resemblance to Geo from Gwain Saga, but this is most likely a coincidence.
  • We also need Opheebop’s icon in final gambit, you can definitely hear her, I don’t know how to add her icon with the placeholder “no icon” icon as a duet icon
  • Bob and Opheebop having similar appearances caused the community to ship them together. Apparently it was so popular, an agreement between Tsuraran and wildlythomas made it canon.
    • However, Tsu decided to make it non-canon after harassment from the Twitter community and in Discord.
