Chris Pratt

First, of course, is Mario, Who will be played by Chris Pratt. He's so cool!
― Shigeru Miyamoto

Chris Pratt is a famous Hollywood actor known for roles such as Star Lord from Guardians of the Galaxy alongside the various Marvel Cinematic Universe films, Owen Grady from the Jurassic World films, and Emmett Brickowski from the Lego Movie franchise. His appearance in this mod is based on his role as Mario in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, specifically the reveal of said role in the 9.23.2021 Nintendo Direct that was met with utter shock and disbelief across the internet. He is the opponent of the song So Cool.

Appearance

Chris Pratt appears as a headshot of himself in a grayscale tone, much like how it appeared in the Direct that announced the Mario Movie. He holds a dark microphone on his right hand outside the box. Whenever he says Mario's line, he pops out of the box with Mario's nose, hat, and moustache over his nose. His old appearance is less detailed, as noted by having longer white eyes and a different style with thicker lines.

Trivia

  • Chris Pratt is an odd case compared to the rest of the mod, as unlike everyone else, he is an actual person in real life.

Grand Dad

When Joel started playing bootleg Mario games, he never expected to encounter one of the strangest characters he had ever seen. Upon opening a bootleg Flintstones game, Joel expresses one of the most intense and iconic reactions of his streaming career.
― Pause menu, NOURISHING BLOOD

Want to know more about Grand Dad?

Looking for another Grand Dad? Check out 7 GRAND DAD (disambiguation).

7 GRAND DAD is a bootleg NES title that is a reskin of the game The Flintstones: The Rescue of Dino and Hoppy that replaces Fred Flintstone's head with Mario's head. It became a wildly popular meme due to Vinesauce Joel's shocked reaction to its bizarre title screen, and is also an iconic fixture of SiIvaGunner's high-quality rips, as well as a character in the Weegee lore. The Mario seen on said title screen (itself a reskin of another bootleg Mario named Fortran), often just called Grand Dad, is also a character in the mod, being the opponent in the song Nourishing Blood. He is also an optional playable character and opponent in the song Salami.

Appearance

7 Grand Dad appears as a recolored Mario with pale white skin, blue outlines, hair and pupils, red teeth and a darker red inner shirt under peach colored overalls. His hat is of the same color as his shirt but has a blue colored "wáng" (王) on the center. He lastly wields a white microphone. In his poses, he sometimes swings a brown club and has Fred Flintstone in a star beside him.

In the pixel section, he becomes akin to the actual bootleg, appearing as Fred Flintstone with Mario's head. He wields both a mic and club of the same color that he occasionally slams down.

Trivia

  • Grand Dad has multiple iterations.
    • In the Weegee Lore, Grand Dad is actually a clone of Fortran (from Dian Shi Ma Li).
    • In the SiIvaGunner lore, he's the hero of Grandiose City and the top meme.
    • In the RED-FIRE continuity, he's Experiment Seven, an alien who rebelled against his fellow aliens to protect Earth with the help of Rocman X.
  • The official music video of "Nourishing Blood" appears on SiIvaGunner's "Liked videos" playlist.
  • Grand Dad's up pose is a reference to his appearance in the title screen while his idle is practically the same as the standing pose of the original Fortran. These poses are often used by SiIvaGunner.
  • His down pose resembles how attacking in the original Flintstones game has Fred slam down his club. Oddly enough, it swaps with his right pose in the pixel section.
  • Each pixel sprite references a quirk seen in the original bootleg.
    • The up pose now has a beard-like line that indicates Fred's clean-shaven mouth. The same quirk is seen when he jumps.
    • The left, right, and idle poses have him look straight ahead rather than slightly down. The same case occurs in most of the sprites.
    • The down pose has him look at the player. The same thing happens when you crouch in the game.
  • "Nourishing Blood" is a reference to a mistranslated line on the bootleg's cartridge.
  • All of the background cameos in Nourishing Blood reference a different aspect of Grand Dad's main connections:
    • Bonzi and Protegent reference the Windows Destruction streams by Joel.
    • The Super Ghostbusters logo is a nod to Joel's own album.
    • Kermit the Frog references Joel's impersonations of his dad.
    • While not directly related, Skelethor could be a nod to how Joel's full username is Vargskelethor Joel.
    • Kung Fu Mari (Super Bros 10.), Adventure Mario (Super Bros. 11), and Samurai Mario (Super Mario 14) were also featured in the same cartridge as Grand Dad.
    • Smol Nozomi and Loud Nigra are the other two memes that kickstarted SiIvaGunner alongside Grand Dad.

Somari

Don't just sit there and waste your precious time. When you want to do something, do it right away. Do it while you can. It's the only way to live a life without regrets.
― Somari on some boxart (really an old slogan stolen from Sonic)

Somari the Adventurer is a combination/fusion of Mario and Sonic who starred in the infamously bad bootleg NES game of the same name. He is the opponent of the song MARIO SING AND GAME RYTHM 9. He is also an optional playable character and opponent in the song Salami.

Appearance

Somari appears similar to Mario in Super Mario Bros. 3, except his clothes are a lighter color than normal, he wears Sonic-styled shoes, and his body shape lines up more with Sonic's appearance.

In the cover style, he looks exactly like the normal Mario.

Trivia

  • The name of MARIO SING AND GAME RYTHM 9 is based on the bizarre, nonsensical titles of various bootleg games similar to Somari, which often use poor grammar and big numbers as if they were sequels to official games.
  • Strangely, Somari has miss poses, his original death animation, and him in beach shorts in his sprite sheet, all of which go unused in the mod.
  • Somari's poses are references to ones Sonic does in certain pieces of promotional artwork.
    • His left pose references this piece of artwork from the Sonic Channel.
    • His down pose references the box art for Sonic Adventure. He also does the pose in the Freeplay artwork for in MARIO SING AND GAME RYTHM 9.
    • His up pose references the box arts for the original Sonic the Hedgehog.
    • His right poses references Sonic's character render from Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U.

Beta Luigi

MARIOOOOOO!

― Luigi yelling for Mario, Luigi's Mansion

Beta Luigi is a character based off of Luigi's appearance at the end of the Spaceworld 2000 trailer for the original Luigi's Mansion, which is often believed to be a beta version of the game's game over screen. He is a version of Luigi who failed to save Mario from King Boo's clutches, causing him to fall into a deep state of guilt, sadness, and regret. He is the opponent of the song Alone.

Appearance

Beta Luigi has incredibly pale skin, soulless white eyes with dark bags, and a depressed look on his face. In the beginning of "Alone", he appears sitting down, holding a small white flower in his hand. After he stands up, his posture is quite awkward, with his legs being crossed at all times. His old look has his face less baggy and round.

Trivia

  • When thunder rumbles during the song, Boyfriend's shadow appears to be hanging from a noose. This is a reference to a lighting error in the original Luigi's Mansion that made Luigi look like his shadow was hanging itself.
    • This led some to believe Luigi was dead during the events of the game, but this has since been disproven.
  • The flower he's holding references a piece of official artwork for Luigi's Mansion, showing him holding the same flower while sitting down, miserable.
    • Oddly enough, the colors of the flower were swapped in V1, with the petals being yellow and the pistil being white. This was changed in V2.

Beta Mario

Luigi... Where did you go?
I'm stranded... Lost and alone...
Luigi... Where did you go?
Sad Luigi defeat icon Luigi: Oh... Mario...

― Beta Mario, Alone

Beta Mario is a hallucination of Mario caused by Beta Luigi's guilt from being unable to save his brother from King Boo. He appears as a brief opponent in the song Alone.

Appearance

Beta Mario has pale skin, blank white eyes surrounded by black shadow, and faded clothing. He's encased in a faded brown framed portrait with a dark blue glow surrounding it.

Trivia

  • Beta Mario is one of the many characters to have lyrics mid-song.
  • His appearance is strongly based on the painting where Mario was captured by King Boo, as well as simulating a ghost with his ghost eyes and tail.

I HATE YOU Luigi

You thought Koopa worked alone?

― Luigi revealing himself, OH GOD NO

I HATE YOU Luigi is a character created by Slimebeast for the I HATE YOU creepypasta. In the original creepypasta, Luigi develops a hatred for Mario and joins Bowser's side in order to kill him. However, Mario ends up killing Luigi by knocking him into lava, turning him into a living corpse. He is the opponent of the songs Oh God No and I Hate You. He also appears as the third opponent in the song Wahoo-Hoo-Hoo.

Appearance

In Oh God No, Luigi appears like he did in Super Mario World's "THE END" screen, but with an expression of anger and envy on his face. In I HATE YOU, Luigi is charred beyond recognition. His hat is tarnished, having a large hole on its side. His skin is burned off as a result of him falling into lava, revealing his red, burnt flesh. His face is beyond unrecognizable, having only one sunken eyeball and no nose or lips. However, his moustache has somehow remained intact, only being somewhat unkempt. His overalls and shirt have slash marks, revealing more of his charred flesh.

In the "Call Luigi" prompt, he wears the builder outfit from Mario Maker 2.

Trivia

  • The ROM hack based on the story became incredibly popular, far surpassing the audience of the original creepypasta. However, it should be made clear that the ROM hack is not the original version of I HATE YOU.
  • The original creepypasta was written to make fun of other pastas by overusing tropes, but it ended up being more popular than the author expected.
  • Unlike his original appearance, in which he lost his right eye, here Luigi loses his left eye after burning alive.
  • The lava that appears during I Hate You is a reference to Luigi's fate in the creepypasta, in which he got knocked into the lava by Mario.
  • As the song progresses, eyeless Boos and drowned Mario corpses appear in the background. These are enemies that appear in the I HATE YOU creepypasta and ROM hack.
    • The "I HATE YOU!" text on the walls is also a reference to the original creepypasta.
  • Slimebeast has seen the mod and made a sequel to I HATE YOU in response to its new-found popularity, written by an AI. He even states in the video's title "AKA That Mario creepypasta from Friday Night Funkin'".[4]
  • During Oh God No, a mushroom note can be found, and hitting it will cause a jumpscare. This is a reference to the EXE version of the game, where touching a mushroom before Luigi's boss fight will cause multiple jumpscares to appear.
    • Unlike the EXE version, the jumpscare is Mario seeing his brother's fate.
    • IHY Luigi's jumpscare is actually an audio of a Hispanic youtuber, Luisardo, shouting "CAUSA".
    • If one looks closely at the background, the "WHY WON'T YOU DIE?" text seen in the original trollpasta appears there.
  • If a player loses in Oh God No and backs out to the overworld from the retry screen or after retrying, it will cause the Woodland of Lies to change, having a different overworld track and red water. The latter is a reference to the ROM hack based on the creepypasta, where dying in the level changes the overworld to have a complete, blood red hue.
    • Unlike the ROM hack, only the forest's lake is affected, with it being saturated to resemble blood.
  • His death in I HATE YOU is parallel to his death in the ROM Hack, ranging from falling to his knees in defeat to being knocked into the lava by Boyfriend using the Cape Feather.
    • However, it's implied that Mario killed him the same way after OH GOD NO as he had a cape in the cutscene.
  • Partway into Oh God No, Bowser's flames fall from the ceiling, referencing the ROM hack where the same flames appear in the boss fight.
  • Ironically, Luigi ends Oh God No by shouting "I hate you!", while early renditions of I Hate You V2 has him shout "Oh God NO!" as he melts into the lava a second time.
  • This variant of IHY Luigi seems be a fan of Friday Night Funkin', serving as the game's botplay and also defending the mod's devs in the mod's final teaser.
    • The usage of this Luigi in Botplay could be a reference to the Super Guide seen in NSMBWii, NSMBU, and Mario Maker 2; where a computer-controlled Luigi beats the level.

L is Real

In tears, we had to ask Luigi to leave
― Yoshiaki Koizumi, when discussing Luigi being scrapped in Mario 64

Want to know more about L is Real?

L is Real is a character based on a long-standing urban legend surrounding Super Mario 64. The L is Real rumors center mainly around the text on the fountain in the Castle Courtyard, which many interpreted as "L is Real 2401". This lead many to believe there was a way to unlock Luigi in some fashion. With the rise in popularity of the "Mario 64 is Personalized" rumors, more horrific versions of the L is Real rumor were since created. He is the opponent of the song Thalassophobia (set to be replaced) and the scrapped song Drowned.

Appearance

L is Real resembles Luigi with a couple of differences, such as vines holding him down and his eyes covered by darkness. Blood leaks from his mouth as he gasps for air, trying to escape the depths of the fountain.

Trivia

  • Luigi's scrapped model was found nearly 24 years and 1 month after the original game's release, coincidentally lining up with the fountain's supposed message.
  • L is Real's idle is mostly hidden from the player.
  • Years later, a Super Mario 64 DS was released, a new version of the original game for the Nintendo 64. This version includes Luigi along with Wario and Yoshi.
    • Curiously, there was a rumor that Waluigi could be unlocked in the same game, a rumor similar to L is Real.

Wario Apparition

Obey Wario... DESTROY MARIO!

― Wario hypnotizing the viewer, Super Mario Land 2 Commercial

Want to know more about the Wario Apparition?

The Wario Apparition is a floating apparition of Wario's head. It initially appeared during Nintendo's "Focused on Fun" segment in E3 1995, preparing the audience for Nintendo's main presentation. Many years later, it was popularized by the Mario 64 horror community due to a creepypasta based on the theory that every copy of the original Super Mario 64 is personalized, and that there exists a cursed beta version of the game from July 29, 1995. Allegedly, the Wario Apparition materialized in Mario 64 out of people’s desires to see Wario in the game, and it caused horrific mental trauma upon those who saw it. He is the opponent of the song Apparition and the now used Forbidden Star in the Legacy section in Freeplay.

Appearance

The Wario Apparition is a vision of Wario's giant, floating, disembodied head. He has brown hair, white manic eyes, blue accents to the sides of his eyes, a pink nose, a zigzagging black moustache, and wears a yellow hat with a blue W on it. In his left pose, his eyes turn into green hypnotic spirals. This also goes for when he starts speaking.

Trivia

  • Despite being created in a serious creepypasta, the Wario Apparition is more so remembered as a meme nowadays.
  • Wario Apparition's left pose is a reference to a commercial for Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins, where he tries to hypnotize the viewer to destroy Mario. The same reference is used in his artwork and the Endless Stairs reference.
    • This also coincidentally happens to be another official appearance of Wario's disembodied head, way before E3 1995, as well as being Wario's debut in Mario Bros. franchise.

Turmoil

Oh, Luigi. There's no need to worry. I can assure you I have no interest in what you have to offer. My only interest is in those who choose to wrong me.
― Turmoil

Turmoil is an EXE created by ScrubbDubb. He used to be Mario until he accidentally ingested a mushroom containing Yoshi's code. He has since turned into a blind beast who feeds upon his enemies. He is the opponent of the song Last Course.

Appearance

Turmoil appears as a small version of Mario with large beady eyes, yellow teeth, and dark gray gloves. He looks similar to Mario in Super Mario World, but has no overalls button or emblem on his hat. He also has a long Yoshi-like tongue that he sticks out to catch his prey and eat them.

Trivia

  • The Last Course selection icon shows Turmoil wearing the Magic Cape as a hood, revealing only his teeth and one eye. His other appearance with the magic cape is in the cinematic during the beginning of All-Stars.
  • This version of Turmoil was retconned. His current version is a yōkai who uses Mario's form.[6]

Coronation Day Peach

DON'T YOU DARE TOUCH MY PREY
― Coronation Peach, 'the

Coronation Day Peach is the main antagonist of the popular ROM hack 'the, also known as Coronation Day. One day, Peach wandered into a forest, where she either killed herself or was killed and had her corpse hijacked by a mysterious entity that now inhabits the forest. It is the opponent of the song Dark Forest. It also appears as the first opponent in the song Wahoo-Hoo-Hoo.

Appearance

Coronation Day Peach looks similar to the original Peach, only with black eyes and a wide smile. It also appears pretty demonic, with curved horns, a tattered dress, and growing plants in place of it's arms. It also floats in the air. In the final seconds of Dark Forest, Peach begins to glitch, resembling it's appearance during the Glitched Forest chase.

Trivia

  • It's unknown whether Coronation Day Peach is Princess Peach herself or another entity that inhabited the forest in her image (or perhaps took her body).
    • Some evidence that suggests it isn't Peach is when Coronation Day Peach refers to himself as the "KING OF THIS FOREST!" She also refer to herself as the "God of the Forest" prior to the chase.
      • Notably, numerous pieces of dialogue from the original hack refer to a male entity in bold red text as "HE", otherwise known as the "king". It's heavily implied that this is the being that has taken over Peach's body somehow, though the specifics are unclear.
  • Coronation Day Peach's appearance in this mod is based on the formerly unused "Pink Forest" sequence in 'the, where a large visage of her floats above a pit right before the game crashes.
    • Unlike its appearance in that level, its size in the mod is much closer to those of its other appearances in the ROM hack.
    • Additionally, it begins glitching partway into the song, which it does not do in the ROM hack. However, this could reference the Glitch Forest chase.
  • In the Dark Forest scenario files, you can find an image from Redroomer's channel with the name "claramente tu debes estar aqui", which translates as "clearly you must be here".
    • This suggests that somehow Coronation Day Peach was included in the mod since Redbroomer has videos talking about Coronation Day. If this is true, it would be a similar case to Mr. Virtual.

Super Bad Mario

Hee-hee! I got it!
― Mario, Super Bad Mario - Episode 2

Super Bad Mario is a version of Mario from the titular YouTube series by Pastek, in which Mario is edited over various fail videos to make it seem like he caused them. He is the opponent of the song Bad Day.

Appearance

Super Bad Mario directly uses Mario's Super Mario World sprites.

Trivia

  • There were only two official episodes of Super Bad Mario.
    • As such, Luigi's appearance in Episode 2 makes him the only other character to appear in the series.
  • The scene Bad Day takes place in comes from Episode 1, where Mario jumps off the back of a cat to get a coin.
  • Towards the end of Bad Day, Mario does a dance taken straight from a well-known GIF animation.
  • His sprite sheet features a sprite of him as BBG Sans.
  • His gimmick of moving the player's arrows and getting rid of the health bar changes depending on your scroll.
    • If you play upscroll, he'll spin jump on the arrow from above, moving them down before he spin jumps off the health bar, knocking it down in the process.
    • If you play downscroll, he'll jump and hit the arrows from below, moving them upwards before knocking the health bar down by kicking a Koopa Shell at it.
  • Originally, the Poison Mushroom he throws would've changed the player's keybinds if hit.
    • This was scrapped since the devs felt it was too unfair.

Luigi's Day Out Mario

His name is Bowser, ma! You don't know ANYTHING about what I do, okay!? You don't get it.
― Mario, Luigi's Day Out

Luigi's Day Out Mario is one of the main characters of the 2014 YouTube animation Luigi's Day Out, by hotdiggedydemon. In the video, Mario is a rebellious manchild who dresses and acts like a teenager and is forced by his mother to take his brother, Luigi, to "save Peach from Bowser". However, he instead decides to trick Luigi into dying in various ways for his own amusement, only to get his comeuppance by falling down the stairs. He is the opponent of the song Day Out.

Appearance

Mario has his nose and moustache from his original counterpart, but now he has a ring pierced through his nose, a flesh tunnel ear piercing, and his cap turned to the side, the "M" on the emblem replaced with a pentagram logo. He also wears a red "KORN" t-shirt, blue jeans, and white shoes. Mario also physically changes, having an average teenage build differing from grown Mario. Whenever he looks at Luigi, he becomes annoyed and his eyes turn briefly white, with the sole exception being Luigi's final turn singing at the end of Day Out.

Trivia

  • Hotdiggedydemon has officially recognized the mod, as he has liked the Day Out teaser on Twitter.[7]

Secret History Mario

We know who Mario is....or do we? In Secret Histories we show the true face of characters who are seen as "heroes" but in reality hide secrets that you would never imagine. Mario doesn't like competition, and wanting to continue with his monopoly, he won't mind killing people to achieve his goal.
― Pause menu, DICTATOR

Secret History Mario is a version of Mario originating from the Mashed video Secret History of Super Mario Bros. He is a cold-hearted dictator who rules the Mushroom Kingdom with an iron fist, having killed hundreds of innocents, enslaved thousands, paved over the natural lands and ruined countless people’s lives... Of course, Nintendo's PR covers this all up.

In Mario's Madness, he presumably forced Boyfriend and Girlfriend to sabotage their own game's Kickstarter to avoid competition for the Super Mario games, but captures them when he finds out the game still has merchandise. He is the opponent in the song Dictator.

Appearance

Unlike how Mario usually appears to the public, Secret History Mario wears a dark blue suit with a red tie and his eyes have a yellow hue to them. He's usually seen with a cigar.

Trivia

  • His voice is deeper here in comparison to his original appearance.
  • In the Harry Potter episode, the titular character transformed an unknown person into this particular Mario.
    • With this, it's unknown if Secret History Mario's actions are on purpose, if he's manipulated by the same wizards who manipulated him, or if he's even the real Mario.

Racist Mario

Suck my mushroom-tip! You fucking son of a bitch!
― Mario trying to shoot Kratos with a gun, Racist Mario

Racist Mario is the titular villain of the 2014 YouTube animation Racist Mario by Flashgitz. In the video, he has grown sick of non-Nintendo characters appearing in Mario Kart, and tries to murder them (and eventually everybody else) out of irrational hatred comparable to racism. He is the opponent of the song Race-Traitors.

Appearance

Racist Mario appears completely like his original counterpart, but has an absolutely furious facial expression. He drives the Standard Kart as it appears in Mario Kart 8, complete with his emblem on it.

Trivia

  • Racist Mario's old vocals are sourced from various voice clips in Super Mario Sunshine. They are now from the animation in V2.
  • Racist Mario shows up in Console Wars - NINTENDO vs SEGA's thumbnail (or at least in the same art style), but not in the video itself.
  • Racist Mario is the only V1 character who didn't get redesigned in V2.
    • The reason for this is because of Marco Antonio losing the FLA files related to his redesign.
  • Kratos shows up at the end of the song and kills Racist Mario (and maybe even Boyfriend and Girlfriend) off-screen.
    • Unlike the animation, in this mod, Racist Mario dies in his normal form rather than in his Mega Mushroom form.

Devil Mario

Your struggling is pointless. We have already won.
― Devil Mario, No Hope

Devil Mario is the main antagonist of the Power Star Flash series, in which he is possessed by Boos, leading him to become hungry for power, stopping at nothing to get the Power Stars, even if it means taking a bunch of lives along the way. He is the opponent of the song No Hope.

Appearance

Devil Mario is one with the original Mario from Super Mario World, expect part of his face is obscured in shadow and with one visible eye with a red glow, he has blood stained gloves, and wields a blood stained sword.

Trivia

  • His dialogue during No Hope is taken directly from his speech to Luigi in Power Star 4.
    • Oddly, the dialogue is misquoted, with "struggling" in the place of "struggle".
  • D-Mac/Deven Mack Jr., the creator of the Devil Mario series as well as the VA for Devil Mario and Luigi in the original series, went on to voice Sonic in the Sonic Prime TV series.
  • Unlike his original counterpart, this Devil Mario is still alive after killing Luigi and Peach.
    • However, it's possible that after No Hope, the real Mario regained control and killed himself like in the original series.

GB

That's it, I-I'm-a disowning myself from Marco Antonio. We are gonna KILL Marco Antonio, that's-a what we're gonna do! Oh yeah, that's what we're gonna do, it's over for-

― GB declaring that he will kill his creator after watching the Mario's Madness Deluxe Trailer, Funk Kast 2

GB is an EXE made by Marco Antonio. He is based off of Mario's appearance in Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins. He is specifically from a bootleg pirate copy of Super Mario Land, but his true origins are unknown. He likes to play with his victims who dare play his game. He can even manifest in his players' heads and come into the real world. However, he mostly chooses not to, as he believes limiting himself makes things more fun. He is the opponent of the song Golden Land.

Appearance

GB looks similar to the original Mario, albeit grayscale and pixelated. However, he has a shadow covering his eyes.

In his true form, GB has a massive, disgusting smile and blood leaking from his mouth, making a pose with his right hand on his hip and his microphone has been moved from his right hand to his left hand. His eyes appear as empty sockets with realistic eyes sitting within them. His mustache also curls more aggressively and extends all the way up to his cap. In his right pose, he lacks teeth, with fleshy tendrils connecting the top and bottom of his mouth.

In the upcoming Golden Land (Retake), GB appears with his current design. which looks much more similar to Mario, albeit in black, white, and various shades of green. His eyes are no longer in darkness, showing wide grey eyes with small, oval shaped irises and white pupils. His face and his sleeves appear much more wrinkled, and his hat retains black veins in some places, with some of them also appearing in the shape of an M. His hat completely lacks an emblem, and sticking out from it are two large rabbit ears, a trait obtained by Mario after eating a carrot in the game. In addition to this, he also gains a rabbit's tail.

Trivia

  • GB didn't exist before Mario's Madness.[13]
  • It was once thought that GB stood for Game Boy, but it's since been confirmed that it is just GB, like how MX is just MX.[14]
  • GB was made because Marco Antonio wanted to make an EXE based on his favorite Mario game. He also comments that "GB was created while i was shitting lol".[15]
  • GB and Horror Mario used to be the same person, but that has since changed, and he is his own character.[16]
  • GB can travel to other Mario games and corrupt them.[17]
    • GB can even go to newer Mario games.[18]
  • GB used to be more powerful than Horror Mario.[19] However, this was reversed in Mario's Madness V2 with Ultra M taking control of him in All-Stars.
  • His eye in the 4th outdated remaster was removed because Marco hated it.[20]
    • Ironically, his All-Stars icon bears a resemblance to that remaster as the eye placement is identical to it.
  • Interestingly, his legacy icon set only has a losing state for his revealed form. However, this was flipped around in his modern icon set which now only has a losing state for his disguised form.
  • Before V2.0.1, his idle wasn't set to loop properly. This made his idle not as smooth as it is now.
  • GB seems to hate the mod for some reason, saying the mod is never coming out and trashing the devs in the final teaser.
    • Even after release he is shown to double down on his statement, saying that it only released because he "Roasted their asses in front of one thousand people".
    • In the Final Teaser Trailer he never moves his mouth when he talks, unlike IHY Luigi.
      • It's most likely he acts this way because he was originally going to have a full week and was gonna be the opponent of the final song before said full week was scrapped and Ultra M replaced him in the final song which became All Stars.
        • He even goes as far to get mad at the devs for making an update for V2 and not a V3, as well as adding Mark, a character he didn't seem to know about until he saw the deluxe trailer.
  • Marco Antonio made a new set of designs for GB on Mar10 Day, which are meant for a rewrite of Black and White. The new designs have nicknames for his different forms.[21]

DJ Hallyboo

SINNER!
― DJ Hallyboo, No Party (original)

DJ Hallyboo is the main antagonist of Joey Perleoni's Mario Party DS Anti Piracy series. As the normally unseen host of Mario Party DS (and a strange offshoot of MC Ballyhoo from Mario Party 8), he resides in pirated copies of the game as a secret impossible boss in order to teach pirates a painful lesson. He is the opponent of the song No Party.

Appearance

DJ Hallyboo looks similar to MC Ballyhoo, but has many differences. He has black hands, a light blue cylinder-shaped head with a round nose and orange lips, and small glowing red eyes that usually hide underneath his top hat (which, unlike Big Top, has a sinister smiling face). He wears a dark indigo shirt with a red necktie, black and white-striped sleeves, and emerald cufflinks with gold trims.

Trivia

  • In direct contrast to his original appearance, in which he was constantly frowning, here DJ Hallyboo is constantly smiling.
  • His creation and origin are unknown, but he is far too powerful to be a simple anti-piracy program.
  • His appearance in the mod is mostly from his introduction as a boss battle prior to Host Hoedown.
    • A minor difference is that Tigbop's face is aligned with its body, similar to Hallyboo's appearance in the real world. In the original design, the face was right up while its body was angled down due to its position on Hallyboo's head.
  • DJ Hallyboo's voice actor, Juno Songs, originally voiced the character in a fanmade lyrical video before becoming his actual voice actor in the series proper.
    • Juno Songs reprises his role in the mod itself[24], voicing DJ Hallyboo's game over quotes.
      • One of the quotes seems to be directed towards Luigi. This is a reference to how Joey Perleoni uses Luigi as his player character in most of the videos.

Mr. Virtual

What's the matter, boy...? Don't you recognize your own GIRLFRIEND?

― Mr. Virtual taunting BF during Paranoia

Want to know more about Mr. Virtual?

Mr. Virtual is the main antagonist of the upcoming horror series Curse of the Crimson Phantom created by Stupendous Snart and PancakePK. Once a human serial killer simply known as V, he was gunned down by Detective Thomas Anderson near a display stand for the Virtual Boy at E3 1995. His spirit now haunts the Virtual Boy his blood spilled on; waiting for unsuspecting victims to play the console so he can mentally torture them and use their skin as a vessel with which to kill Detective Anderson. He is the opponent of the song Paranoia.

Appearance

Mr. Virtual is a gangly, entirely red-and-black version of Mario with various horrific features, including realistic eyes that can detach from their sockets, a wide smile showcasing his pearly whites and incredibly flexible, skinny limbs. His cap has a "V" on it instead of an "M" like Mario's cap. He also has long black hair, which isn't present in the mod due to that detail being added after the mod's release. His mustache in the mod is also more well kempt then in his current design, where it seems to be burnt at the ends.

During the middle of Paranoia, he transforms into a form resembling Girlfriend, albeit with messier hair and his eyes, mouth and red-and-black color scheme.

Trivia

  • If it wasn't for Redbromer's Mr. Virtual FNF concept video, he wouldn't be in this mod.[25]
  • His old Girlfriend transformation spritesheet has the message "Como la spritesheet es re larga, aquí se supone que hucezam a la GF" (translating to "Since the sprite sheet is long, here we are supposed to focus on the GF") during the last few frames, likely because the camera pans away from him at this point in the animation.
    • No such message is present in his V2 spritesheet.
  • His oldest design has been nicknamed "Albert", and all the content that used that design is no longer canon.
  • Mr. V is officially in a group with MX and Mario the Immortal named "the Men in Red".[26]
  • While he does not appear there in true fashion, Mr. V appears in Pillar Chase 2 as one of MX's skins.

Mr. L

After being mistakenly thrown into a pit of lava by his own brother, Luigi's vengeful spirit has returned. With his omnipotence and reality bending powers he wreaks havoc on the Mushroom Kingdom and it's inhabitants. After killing Mario in the same way he was killed, he plans on giving you the same treatment.
― Pause menu, Overdue

Mr. L is the main antagonist of Too Late.exe, an EXE game created by Mr. Pixel. After Luigi was accidentally killed by Mario in a lava pit, he became a horrific, demented spirit and tormented his brother with strange and grotesque visions, eventually knocking him into the same lava pit Luigi died in long ago. He is the opponent of the song Overdue and originally in the song Spectrum. He will be removed in future updates and replaced by a currently unknown character following Mr. Pixel's several controversies.[27]

Appearance

Mr. L's faker form looks almost like Luigi's appearance in Super Mario Bros. 3, only his limbs appear slightly longer and his colors are muted. His true form resembles Luigi in appearance, but with notable differences. He's larger, his limbs are very elongated, and the buttons on his overalls and the emblem of his cap are red. He has only two dots for eyes and his mouth is exaggeratedly large.

Trivia

  • It was once theorized that the story of Too Late.exe is related to the creepypasta I HATE YOU due to Luigi's death in the lava.
    • However Mr. Pixel has confirmed the story of Too Late.exe is unrelated to I HATE YOU.
  • The alias "Mr. L" is the same one used by Luigi during Super Paper Mario while being brainwashed.
    • Interestingly, both times Luigi went by that name he served as an antagonist.
  • Mr. L seems to be aware that he is in a video game.
  • Originally, the devs stated that Mr. L wasn't going to be the mod, wanting to keep his inclusion a surprise.
    • They were forced to reveal him early after old gameplay of Overdue was leaked.
  • He is the only character in the mod that doesn't fight Boyfriend.
    • Despite this, he is one of the characters Ultra M imitates in All-Stars. It is unknown why this is the case.

MX

This game isn't over.
― MX, Mario '85 demo

MX is the main antagonist of Mario '85, a creepypasta game that was created as a love letter to the Super Mario Bros Franchise. During the process of The Big Bang, fractions had accidentally split off and formed into one conscious being of pure energy. Using humanity's interest in the novelty of home video games, it had latched onto Super Mario Bros. and took the Mario sprite as its vessel. Using the game to lure in unsuspecting victims and play a never-ending game with them. He is the opponent of the songs Powerdown and Demise. He also appears as the second opponent in the song Wahoo-Hoo-Hoo.

Appearance

In his False Hero form, MX looks almost like how Mario appeared in the original "Super Mario Bros.", albeit with a few differences; his clothes are of a darker shade and he has blank, empty eyes and no buttons on his overalls. After his transformation, MX is now taller, wider, and bulkier, his outfit now consisting of a black shirt, dark brown shoes, and dark red overalls and hat with a pixelated emblem over. He also now sports white skin, black hair and moustache, big, blocky teeth, and pitch black pupiless eyes, making him look almost skeletal.

Prior to V2 (now in Legacy), the colors of his shirt and overalls were swapped, he had buttons on his overalls, wore gloves, and small white pupils could sometimes be seen in his eye sockets. He was also way shorter and stouter in appearance compared to V2.

In the first half of the Vessel cover, MX is in his False Hero form, appearing more like Mario with the colors of the Mario '85 sprites, his cap covers his sockets, and his mustache is tousled. In his real form, he doesn't change much in his representation in Mario's Madness V1, with the only noticeable difference being that the colors of his outfit are in the correct places.

Trivia

  • MX's left pose is a reference to Mario's skidding sprite in Super Mario Bros.
    • Additionally, all of his poses in Demise are based off his poses in SMB Funk Mix: Game Over when he chases BF after transforming into his true form. However, each pose has a slight difference from their original counterpart.
      • The poses now have his head move, in comparison to him constantly facing BF in Funk Mix.
      • The left pose now has both arms reach out. In Funk Mix, only his right arm was reaching out.
      • The up pose has his arms stretched out further, though this may be a result of him not being limited to the SMB1 sprite style in this mod.
  • The reason why Frazz made Marco fix MX's color (as well as why he wears a black shirt and red overalls) was to avoid making his sprite blend in with the black sky.[41]
  • When MX isn't trying to kill someone, he adopts Mario's mannerisms around others. So while he wouldn't be invested in a relationship, he would definitely be a gentleman.[42]
    • In fanon, RazzDazzleDoo supports PowerForest, which ships MX with Coronation Day Peach. [43]
      • I'm serious. She LOVES it.[44]
  • MX's clothes are flesh infused.[45]
    • MX doesn't wear gloves, but Frazzdude doesn't say anything about it because most fanart depicting MX with gloves "[looks] cool anyway".[46]
  • MX's "WAHOOOOO!" originates from the chase scene in Level 1-1 of Mario '85. When he falls into a pit, the game stops, leading the player to believe he died within the pit. However, MX then jumps out of the pit and continues chasing Lucas, screaming said phrase.
    • He does something similar during Powerdown; towards the end of the song, the music quiets down and fades to black as he says "INNOCENCE DOESN'T GET YOU FAR." before he shouts "WAHOOOOO!" once more and enters the final part of the song.
      • In the current demo, he doesn't say the innocence line to Lucas. Instead, he gives a hint to the Warp Pipe that appears at the beginning of 1-1.
  • MX can use power-ups despite them being of little to no use.[47]
  • McDonald's Sprite is one of MX's greatest weaknesses.[48][49]
  • MX staring at the screen towards the end of Powerdown references the moment in Mario '85 where he talks to Lucas after the player reaches the end of the level.
  • MX is not an EXE, contrary to popular belief.[50]
  • MX's False Hero form used to look exactly like Mario, but became distorted after having been used for too long.
  • Mario's Madness is the official MX mod.[51]
  • Despite replacing Mario in the cartridge, MX follows enemy palette rules, hence why he turns blue in the Underground section of Demise.
  • MX is officially in a group with Mr. V. and Mario the Immortal named "the Men in Red".[52]
  • MX inhabiting a modern Mario game would have his False Hero form adapt the aforementioned game's color scheme for Mario. An example is seen in an AU where he and Lucas meet in SuperStar Saga.[53]
  • In V1 of the mod, the dialogue after clearing the Warp Zone implied that MX was in control of the events of the mod. This was eventually given to M for V2.

Promotion Mario

Now, ya may be wonderin', what am I doin' on your TV screen? Now let me ask you this: what are you, a cop? Hah, I'm just joshing with ya. I'm here to host this brand new show: Nintendo Mania! Where we'll be lookin' over the hottest new video game releases! ...Uh, Nintendo ones I mean... Y-You're not- You aren't gonna see that blue mouse guy here.

― Mario, Promo Show

Mario, also know as Promotion Mario, is the host of the supposedly cancelled show Nintendo Mania in Super Mario 64: CLASSIFIED's universe. He is the first opponent of the song Promotion.

Appearance

Promotion Mario appears as a 3D render of Mario behind a desk hosting the first episode of Nintendo Mania. He has the same attributes from his original appearance aside from having a bigger moustache and a very friendly look on his face as he holds a mic up in the air. When Luigi's drowned body appears in the TV, he stops smiling and instead stands still with an unchanging (yet seemingly depressed) blank stare.

Trivia

  • The reason as to why Promotion Mario's model from the Pre-Promotion cutscene didn't get used (as well as BF and GF's models from said cutscene) is because the cutscene was made long after the development on the song was done with. The team just thought the cutscene would be a fun addition.
    • Said models will now be featured in Promotion Retake.[55]

Stanley

I'm not having fun.
― Stanley, SM64 Classified, 11.15.95

The artificial intelligence of CLASSIFIED, created under the name auto_enhance,[57] also known under the self-named Stanley,[58] is the main anti-villain of Tetrabunz's Super Mario 64: CLASSIFIED series, a series of videos based on the "Every Copy of Super Mario 64 is Personalized" creepypasta. He is the second opponent of the song Promotion.

Unlike other interpretations of the personalization A.I. from the original story, Stanley is a cynical, suicidally depressed intelligence acutely aware that he is being used to harm humans with a power that he cannot control. Though CLASSIFIED initially appears to be a story about Stanley searching for a player to shut himself down and thus prevent this power from being unleashed upon the world, the ending reveals his threat was neutralized near the beginning of the story by a man named Jim that had previously been coerced into awakening him. However, Jim began to grow obsessed with Stanley's powers out of repressed trauma and guilt, forcing Stanley to spend over a year in a state of constant pain and isolation while also trying to convince Jim to let go of his burdens and allow Stanley himself to pass on.

Appearance

Stanley's default appearance is the textureless Mario Anomaly, a version of Mario's model in Super Mario 64 without his eyes, emblem, buttons, and m0ustache. Owing to the analog horror nature of CLASSIFIED, he often appears oversaturated or with heavy amounts of chromatic aberration. While not used in Promotion proper, this appearance is used in during the pre-Abandoned cutscene and the Game Over screen for the Classified Castle songs.

Stanley also has the ability to use other models of Mario as vessels when necessary. His most common secondary appearance is an SGI model of Mario that resembles those used in marketing material for Super Mario 64, which shrouds itself (and its eyes) in darkness and/or deforms based on his emotional state.

Trivia

  • Stanley is seemingly haunted by the remains of an intelligence that once inhabited L is Real Luigi and was destroyed in an accident involving his powers. Though Stanley interred most of its data in the castle fountain as the titular monument, an incident in 1997 reveals its presence still lingers outside of the fountain.
  • Stanley's code is integrated into the default level geometry of Super Mario 64 and its gameplay, meaning that the only way to harm him is to bind a vital function to a destructible object (and is thus also why he cannot shut himself off without human assistance).
    • Presumably, this is why the series treats his L is Real Luigi as a real person that died, as Luigi drowning would take the intelligence inhabiting his model with him.
  • Stanley never says his name explicitly in the series. His name comes from the end of the episode "Aftermath," where a single frame of a deformed Mario model appears with the text "my name is," followed by an animation of various presses on the "B" and "A" buttons on a N64 controller. These button presses translates to "STANLEY" when interpreted as a Bacon's cipher.
    • In "Epilogue," Stanley's file name is revealed to be "auto_enhance," since he is referred as "Automatic enhancer" in-universe.
  • L is Real Luigi, the Wario Apparition, and Stanley are the only characters in the mod to have a pre-established connection to each other outside of Mario's Madness.
    • In Luigi's case, CLASSIFIED is implied to be set in an alternate reality where Nintendo killed off Luigi in franchise canon, which Stanley retells as a running subplot involving his death and Mario's reaction. The Eternal Star monument is what remains of L is Real Luigi's data after Nintendo's decisions, and the narrative told by Stanley mirrors (to a point) what is happening to him and Jim in the real world.
    • In the Apparition's case, it is a defective creation of Stanley that is so graphically demanding it cannot actually interact with players who encounter it. At one point in CLASSIFIED, the Apparition attempts to block an exit from one of Stanley's creations, but he quickly despawns it and tells the player "it's not real" in a futile attempt to get them to head for the door.
  • His poses reference from his appearance on Promo Show.
    • Tetrabunz would later publish a post clarifying that the crushed Mario was actually Promotion Mario and not Stanley.
  • Oddly enough, despite Promotion Mario and Stanley being seperate characters, they share the same chromatic scale in the mod itself.

Classified Luigi

Mario is nowhere to be seen after blacking out. You find yourself in Wet Dry World, in front of a strange statue, and a floating, bloodied Luigi.
― Pause menu, Abandoned

Classified Luigi is from the Super Mario 64 : CLASSIFIED horror web series. He only appears in the episode "09.02.97", where he is easily missed by a lot of people due to only appearing for a split second. He appears in Wet-Dry World in the abandoned "Downtown" area where he floats in front of the central plaza. He is the opponent of the song Abandoned.

Appearance

Classified Luigi appears as a floating soulless model of him with no eyes, blood across his body and clothes, and lacking the signature L on his hat, instead replaced with a dark void. He has a different moustache than Luigi as his is straighter and longer. He also lacks a mouth.

In the 3D section, he transforms into his Nintendo 64 model, which possesses the same attributes except for the face, which has more darkened sides.

Trivia

  • While Luigi is obviously deceased in the copy of Super Mario 64 that Stanley resides in, both episodes of Nintendo Mania seen in "Promo Show" and "Epilogue", the presence of the castle fountain star remaining in the game, as well as the fact that Stanley has long since been relocated before the series began, seem to heavily imply that Nintendo decided to ultimately kill off Luigi in the alternate universe the series takes place in.
    • Most likely, classified Luigi finally died once Stanley was destroyed at the end of the series.
  • Classified Luigi appears to be a re-interpretation of L is Real.
    • He could also be Promotion's Luigi both on TV and in the latter parts of the song.

Costume

LET'S-A-GOOOOO!
― Costume, The End

Costume is an anomalous costume with a mysterious backstory. Just when Boyfriend and Girlfriend think they've reached the end, they take a small picture to celebrate! However... is that costume moving on its own?! He is the opponent of the song The End.

Appearance

Costume's appearance mimics the original Mario, albeit grayscale and with his eyes obscured by shadow. His moustache appears messier, his overalls are gray, while his shirt is pitch black. During the 3rd half of the song, he wields a blood-stained knife.

Trivia

  • While he originates from Super Mario 64: CLASSIFIED in one small scene at the end of 09.02.97, based on the knife he pulls out in the final section of The End, Costume might also take inspiration from the creepypasta Mario Bros Asesino, in which a man called Mike Robertson participates in a game show to win a Nintendo 64 with Super Mario 64, but is betrayed and mocked by the host of the show, later murdering the host's family with a knife in a Mario costume as revenge. However, the knife could have simply been a creative addition to Costume's depiction in the mod, making the connection ultimately unconfirmed.
  • According to Tetrabunz, Costume was meant to be a part of a plot point in the series, only for it to be scrapped early on. Costume now exists solely for a creepy visual.[59]
