Friday Night Funkin': The Spirits Of Hell, formerly known as Friday Night Funkin': The Spring Of Hell, is a mod created by SMV5 released on Christmas (2021). It is based on the popular fan-game Sonic.Exe: The Spirits of Hell and its sequel Whisper of Soul, created by Dan the Patient Bear, thus also featuring different "endings" depending on the player's actions. Currently, the mod has more than 20 songs.

Exeller[]
Exeller is the main antagonist of Sonic.EXE: Spirits of Hell and Sally.EXE: Whisper of Soul and is the main antagonist of the mod. He is another associate of Exetior. He is not a demon, but a .exe and a Highest once again.
Story[]
Exeller was a Zero Class Highest. He had good grades and a perfect attitude. He wanted to be an Earth Protector to be able to travel around Mobius without the king stopping him. He didn't think Mobians were as bad as his teachers said they were, as his friend, Alice, interacted with a few, and she said they were nice. Later, Exeller had a meeting with other third class Highests. There, he and the other Highests found out that the 'person with the red eyes' was not a person at all, but they didn't know what it was. The king later found out about this trip, and was not happy. He punished them. He didn't know what happened to Alice. Rexer got off with a warning, while Laura, Phil, Wayne, and Exeller himself had their magic prohibited for an entire week. Rexer promised them that he would show the last memories of his victims. Exeller found this to be creepy. Alice and Exeller would go see tomorrow, but Laura and Phil did not want to come. One day, Exeller and Alice traveled to Earth. They did not find a trace of the person with red eyes. Along the way, they met two Mobian hedgehogs- one was a child and the other one was older. Alice found the child to be annoying, but Exeller found him to be kind of cute. They came back to the Eternal World, and decided to relax. They gathered the other third class Highests into the Terra Woods and tried some things that they learned from Mobians. There, Laura kissed Exeller, breaking the rule that third classes cannot have romantic relationships. Later, Exeller found Laura infected in a cave. He only saw madness in her eyes, like the the eyes of the Highest in the victims' memories. She died, disappearing into ashes. Exeller was greatly affected by her death. Alice and Rexer had found some strange energy on Kuri Mountain, and Exeller contemplated joining them. Eventually, Exeller was cursed somehow, unlocking his abilities that were once dormant. One day, he kidnapped Wayne and cut his limbs off, gouged out his eyes, cut off his ears, and blocked his mind so no one could read his memories. Exeller felt satisfied by how he had defeated a second class, but he later felt to regret for doing it. He realized that he didn't need to kill to be satisfied, as people's mere suffering satisfied him entirely. He went to find Alice so she could answer some of his questions. Later, he came to Mobius and he tried to terminate everyone.

Exeller has Sonic's body, so he is an anthropomorphic hedgehog with blue fur and light skin, he wears white gloves and red shoes. His eyes are black with red irises and blood comes out of them. In Night Valley, Exeller tries to trick Amy by posing as Sonic before later revealing himself.
In V1 of the mod, Exeller had no pupils in his eyes and his arms appeared longer and were beside his body.

Amy Rose is a recurring protagonist in the Sonic the Hedgehog series, known for wielding a massive hammer and having a crush on Sonic himself. In this mod, she’s the opponent in Volcano Valley and Arch Souls. She's also a playable character in Night Valley, where she faces off against Exeller.
Appearance[]
Amy is a pink-furred anthropomorphic hedgehog with light green eyes and peach skin covering her muzzle, inner ears, and arms. She has a red sleeveless and backless dress with two white trims and a white petticoat underneath. She also has tall red boots with a white stripe down the center, white cuffs and gray soles.
In Arch Souls, her fur is now dark orange instead of pink. Her left eye is sewn shut, making some blood to come out of her eye, while the other eye now has black sclera and red pupils instead of white sclera and light green pupils.

Boyfriend[]
Boyfriend is the protagonist of "Friday Night Funkin'" and the main playable character in "Spirits of Hell". He is the playable character in most of the songs he appears in, except for Bingo Forest, where he takes the position of being the first opponent.
In this mod, he's a Mobian rabbit that loves to rap, leading him to engage in rap battles with whoever he comes across. In the process, he screws with Exeller's plans, leading the Highest to eventually confront him and try to kill him.

Boyfriend appears as a blue-furred rabbit with a fluffy white tail and a peach coloring for his snout, arms and eyelids. His fur on the top of his head is styled similar to the hair of the original Boyfriend, and his attire is similar as well, consisting of a white shirt, blue pants, red shoes with white laces and underside, and a red hat with a blue brim. Unlike the original Boyfriend, Mobian Boyfriend's shirt appears to have an "S" emblem on it instead of a prohibition sign, and he also wears white fingerless gloves.
In "Unwarp", Boyfriend appears in his soul/"exe" form. In this state, his fur has turned dull, the sclera of his eyes are now black with the left pupil being red while the right pupil appears to be gray, his teeth are now sharp, his left hand has been stripped of its skin, revealing the skeleton underneath, his left ear has been torn off with blood staining the root, with blood also leaking out of his eyes, a tear in his left knee and a wound in his chest. His right hand is also stained with blood, with blood also staining his microphone, which he now holds by the round top like a glass of wine as opposed to by the handle, and his hat has a rip in the center over a wound on his head so bad that a part of his brain sticks out and blood stains the surrounding fur.
In "Alliance but Cringe", Boyfriend appears as a crudely drawn version of himself. In his poses, he references different memes.

Cream the Rabbit is a fictional character from the Sonic the Hedgehog series. She is an anthropomorphic rabbit and is the daughter of Vanilla the Rabbit. She is also a friend of the Chao, especially to her dear Chao friend Cheese, who she takes with her everywhere. In this mod, she's the opponent in Foggy Forest and Poor Girl. She's also a playable character is Bingo Forest and Doll.

Cream is a small, cream-furred, anthropomorphic rabbit with cinnamon-brown eyes, a small brown nose, and a white muzzle. She has princeton orange markings around her eyes, on her head and at the ends of her ears. She also has one long eyelash on each eye, and a short, fluffy tail that sticks out of her dress, though it is not always visible. For attire, she wears a simple sleeveless vermilion dress with a white collar and a light blue cravat, white gloves with a golden cufflink on each cuff, white socks, and vermilion and yellow slip-on shoes with gray soles. Her ears also have pink-colored canals, and are usually swiveled back and flop behind her head.

Soul Cream appears as Cream, but her fur is now dark purple with red. Her eyes remain closed, but bleed a black sustance. Under her right ear, a patch of skin can be seen, likely caused by her frequently pulling on her ears.

Vanilla[]
Vanilla is a fictional minor character from the Sonic the Hedgehog series. She is an anthropomorphic rabbit and the respected mother of Cream the Rabbit. In this mod, she is killed by Execun (who later disguises himself as her) and the second opponent of Bingo Forest, taking Cheese away from Cream and eventually, killing Cream.

Vanilla is a tall, cream-furred anthropomorphic rabbit with a white muzzle, a small brown nose, brown eyes, and a tuft of dark orange hair on her forehead. She has brown eyelids and dark orange markings around her eyes and on the ends of her lopped ears. For attire, she wears a long lavender dress with a white trim at the bottom of the puffy sleeves and the skirt, a burgundy-fitted vest with golden buttons, a blue or orange ascot, white gloves with gold cufflinks, burgundy low-heeled shoes with a yellow detail and gray soles, and pink lipstick.

Execun[]
Execun is an EXE created by Danuha2526 that appears in Sally.EXE: Whisper of Soul who’s seemingly based on the Boo enemies in Sonic Adventure 2. One of Exeller’s henchmen, he has the ability to shapeshift into anyone who he has killed. He is also responsible for the mass genocide on the Chao and the death of Cream and Vanilla. He appears disguised as Vanilla in the second half of Bingo Forest (at the point when he has already killed Vanilla) before revealing himself in Doll.

Execun is a blue ghastly entity with a round body and short tip, sporting clawed hands and hedgehog quills. He has dark orange markings around his yellow eyes combined with red sclera, just like his base design.

Sally Acorn is the queen of mobius and is one of the main protagonists of Sally.EXE: The Whisper of Soul and is a minor character in Sonic.EXE: Spirits of Hell aside from a few mentions and sprite art showing her. In this mod, she's a playable character in South Tropic and an opponent in Snowy Volcano

Robotnik[]
Doctor Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik is one of the main antagonists of the Sonic series and is one of the main protagonists of the Spirits of Hell series. In this mod, he's a playable character in Mountain Peek.
In V1, he's the opponent in Metropolis, Sky Base and Freedom Center. He's also a playable character in Sky Sanctuary.
Appearance[]
Robotnik appears as a tall, overweight human man with a small, bald head, blue eyes, a bright red nose and a bushy mahogany moustache. In this mod, he's seen with a jetpack on, just like in SoH.
In V1, specifically, Freedom Center, He's now in his soul form. His head is now grey, his mustache is white instead of mahoganym and his pants are black instead of grey.

Knuckles the Echidna (ナックルズ・ザ・エキドゥナ) is a character in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. He is an anthropomorphic echidna and the current guardian of the Master Emerald, a powerful ancient gemstone which is kept on Angel Island.

In his week, he looks the same as he does in the games: a red echidna. In "Red Ring", Knuckles gets a worried/scared look on his face, most likely from touching a red ring, making him hallucinate.
In Cry Hill and Demonic Echidna, Knuckles appears as his normal counterpart, but he is missing his left arm and eye, and his fur is slightly darker.

Exetior[]
Exetior is a main antagonist of the Sonic.Exe: Nightmare Version series and is the opponent in, Blood Temple, going against Exeller. Exetior is said to be an Arch-Demon who escaped from a hellish prison and hid on Mobius, in the body of Sonic the Hedgehog. He is the former Highest and one of the creators of Mobius. He wants to demonize the inhabitants of Mobius, gaining his army, and win Mobius from the Highests for his own control only.

Exetior looks similar to Sonic (Modern Sonic in this mod), but with some noticeable differences. His fur is dark blue, he has black sclera and red pupils and his ears are pointed up. He also seems to have several sharp rows of teeth, as seen in his Left and Up pose.

Soul Sonic[]
Soul Sonic is a monochromatic version of Classic Sonic, and an unfortunate victim in Sonic.EXE: Spirits of Hell, who was killed by Exeller in the beginning of the game, coming back as a ghost to get revenge on the latter. He’s the playable character in Unless Spirit where he faces off against his faker.

Classic Sonic appears differently in this mod, as he is an anthropomorphic hedgehog with grey fur and light skin. He wears white gloves and dark grey shoes. His eyes are white with black irises, and he is transparent.
Sonic.ISO is a Sonic Horrorbrew created by SMV5 and is an entity that doesn’t qualify himself as an EXE, but as an unknown race. He is the opponent of Dark Spirit

Sonic.ISO appears as a loolalike of Sonic dressed in the Excalibur Armor from Sonic and the Black Knight, with the visor cracked, and Shahra's ring on his right hand. His jaw appears to be completely broken, his mouth is full of sharp fangs, and he has the typical black sclara and red pupils usually seen amongst his ilk.

Metal Sonic is a character who protects Robotnik from getting killed by Exeller in Metallic Hardware. Even though he appears in the V1 update, his files can be found in the V2 files.
Appearance[]
Metal Sonic was created in the image of Sonic the Hedgehog and is thus mostly built of blue metal. He has a yellow circular depression in his chest with a black center, mirroring the peach skin on Sonic's chest. His head has metal fins resembling Sonic's quills and a pair of triangular "ears." Metal Sonic has a muzzle, shoulder plates, upper arms, legs, and fingers made out of silvery metal. His palms are black, while the backs of his hands are square yellow plates. His forearms and lower legs are blue metal like his head and torso, and he has red feet with white stripes designed to resemble Sonic's shoes. He has optic sensors with black sclera and red irises.

Tails Doll is a character from Sonic R, who became the basis of various Creepypasta stories due to his unnerving nature. In Sonic R, Dr. Robotnik created Tails Doll as a robotic counterpart to Tails (much like Metal Sonic) in order to compete in races against him. In his many creepypasta stories, however, he is a demonic entity who kills anyone that performs the “Tails Doll Curse”. He's the opponent for Madness Base.

SMV5 is the creator of the mod. He was an opponent when the mod was still in demo AND when the mod was still called "The Spring of Hell". When V1 released, he got scrapped along with his freeplay song, Stormship. It is unknown why SMV5 did this.

SMV5 is a lanky, white-skinned man with beady black eyes and messy brown hair. He wears a star-patterned sweater, ripped black pants and gray shoes with no visible laces. He holds a microphone in one hand and keeps his other hand in his pocket.

Fleetway Super Sonic refers to Super Sonic as he's depicted in the Sonic the Comic series published by Fleetway Comics. This particular depiction of Super Sonic is a distinct entity from his base-form counterpart. When the latter is exposed to chaos energy or put under extreme stress, the former manifests. Unlike his mainstream counterpart, he is violent, blood hungry, and enjoys killing innocent people.
In "Spirits of Hell", he was intended to appear in the song "Demonized", in which he'd face off against Exeller. However, no assets were ever made for him and the song, along with Super Sonic, got removed after the release of V2.Gameplay Mechanics[]
- Health Drain: Several opponents can drain the player's health as they take their turn. These include:
- Boyfriend in Bingo Forest
- Vanilla in Bingo Forest
- Exeller in every song except Night Valley, Snowy Volcano, and Amnesia (this includes his Light and Dark forms)
- Amy.EXE in Arch Soul
- Execun in Doll
- Hammer Throw: In Arch Souls, Amy.EXE will throw her hammer, requiring you to press SPACE to avoid an instant Game Over.
- Flashlight: In the second half of Bingo Forest, Cream must use her flashlight (by pressing SPACE) to stop Vanilla from attacking her. Failure to stop her attack will result in an instant Game Over.
- Spin Dash: In God Killer, Exeller will attempt to attack you using Spin Dashes. You need to press SPACE to avoid an instant Game Over.
- Insanity Meter/Jumpscare: Throughout every song, a meter appears on the right side of the screen that fills up every time you continue (this, of course, includes resets, but not restarts). If it fills completely, a jumpscare plays for the entire song accompanied by a very loud droning noise. The jumpscare severely hinders your vision of the strumlines (if you're playing on middlescroll, it becomes impossible to play), making it more likely for you to lose. The meter resets every time a new song is played.
