Greetings, Funkhead! I see that you're most likely a new user here and how we all function!
We’ve got you covered!
Here's a list of commonly asked questions and their respective answers to get you started on the basics here on the community!
What is a wiki?
A wiki is an online encyclopedia that relies solely upon online crowdsourcing, specifically, any user who has knowledge on a certain topic and participate and contribute what they know! So, in a nutshell, it's an online encyclopedia but more free!
Like other wikis, the purpose of the Funkipedia Mods wiki is document information and knowledge of Friday Night Funkin' mods!
What is a Friday Night Funkin' mod?
A Friday Night Funkin' mod is a modification of the main game, Friday Night Funkin'. Usually, mod makers and developers gather artists, animators, voice actors, musicians and composers, and programmers that come together to work to create a mod. Mods can range from overhauls, remix/reskins, or based on preexisting content or popular media. There are at least thousands of these mods and our goal here is to document nearly all of them!
How do I edit?
Since it is recommended to use the Source Editor, click on the three dots located on the top right corner and then click on "Edit Source".
How should the page be formatted?
An article page should be formatted as either a mod page or a character page. For more details, please refer to the wiki's Style Manual as a guide. It is highly recommended to read it before making any edits.
Why can't I create a page?
Don't panic! You're not in trouble.
You can create pages in your userspace regardless of the age of your account. When your verified Fandom account is at least 4 days old and you have made at least 30 credible edits on the wiki, you gain the ability to create a wiki page in the main namespace. However, this doesn't mean you can edit farm, as it's against the rules. This is to prevent trolls from creating troll pages.
What are the requirements to get my own wiki article?
If you have a mod that doesn’t break the rules and its content on the wiki page potentially meets at least 1,000 bytes, then you may create a page for it. If the created page is less than 1,000 bytes, then the page becomes marked as a candidate for deletion. Should the page be left under 1,000 bytes for too long, it will be deleted.
What Does "Sysop" Mean?
Sysop is short for "System Operator." It's also another term to refer a local administrator on a wiki.
In short, both "sysop" and "administrator" mean the same exact same thing.
Oooh, nice! Can I be one?
Assuming you're new here, no. Not yet at least, because administrators are reserved for staff members who are highly experienced on this wiki.
How can I improve Funkipedia Mods Wiki?
You can start by helping us add missing information, images, or music to outdated or unfinished pages that we have on this wiki.
How do I upload images?
Overall, you must be a registered user on Fandom in order to upload an image.
There are 2 ways to upload them. Go to the Navigation Bar on the top of the screen, hover over "EXPLORE", go down to "Images" and click on it, hover over to the right and click on "ADD NEW IMAGE", drag the desired image where it instructs you to, then click on "UPLOAD FILE".
The second way is to click on the 3 dots icon on the top right corner, then click on "Upload New File", click on the white button that instructs you to choose a file, then upload the desired file. Loading should take a bit and will tell you when it will upload.
Files must be 10 megabytes or less in order for them to be uploaded on this wiki. Should a file be greater than 10MB, it must be compressed until its size is less than 10MB. This can be done using an online image compressor.
Why is my uploaded image blank?
No worries, in this case it might have been the file type your uploaded file came with.
Normally this happens when you upload an animated .webp or .ico file.
To avoid this from happening, it is recommended to convert your file into a .gif or a .png file respectively.
Why do I get an error message that the file already exists when I try to upload a file?
The reason is because that there is a file that has already been uploaded with that file name. If you're uploading a file with a file name that already exists in the wiki but is different in some manner (visual, sound, etc.), try changing the file name.
How do I upload videos?
If you want to upload a YouTube video, get the link of the desired one, go to the "explore" navigation bar on the top corner then go to "videos", click on "add video", and add the link to it.
What is a talk page?
A talk page is separate page from another page designed for discussing the contents of the page itself and how it could be improved. This does not mean it's a page for discussing the topic of the corresponding page, that is for our Discord Server which you can join.
What do the numbers mean in an edit/recent change?
When looking through the history of edits of any wiki page, they normally appear as:
(cur|prev) [Time the edit was saved] [Date the edit was made] [Username of editor who made the edit] (Message Wall|contribs)..[Number of current bytes on the page] [Page size difference from previous edit]..(Tag: [Type of Edit])
How can I keep track of a page?
Go to your desired page, click on the 3 dots icon next to the "EDIT" button, then go down and click on "Watch." You should be able to receive notifications to your verified email address every time that page gets edited.
Why can't I edit certain pages?
You may have come across pages that have a button that has a lock symbol, followed by "VIEW SOURCE." Those pages are protected due to a number of reasons, such as excessive vandalisms that has happened prior to their protection, leaks, or requested by the developers of the mod. Only staff members (excluding thread moderators) can edit those pages. If you feel that something needs to be added or changed in them, ask a content moderator or administrator on this wiki.
Why do some pages take a long time to load?
There are at least two possibilities that this could happen (assuming you have a high-end computer):
- The page is too large to view. (i.e. over 100k bytes)
- The page has exceeded the node count to the point where some things are not rendered properly.
Either one of the above would normally result to the page being unstable to view. Should that be the case, try splitting some sections (e.g. Characters, Music, etc.) to subpages, or removing some navboxes, to ensure page stability.
After creating a subpage, do not forget to include subpage links on the main page they originated from.
Examples:
- Friday Night Funkin' D-Sides's characters were moved to Friday Night Funkin' D-Sides/Characters.
- Friday Night Funkin' Lullaby's music was moved to Friday Night Funkin' Lullaby/Music.
- Hololive Funkin''s dialogue was moved to Hololive Funkin'/Journey to Stardom Dialogue and Hololive Funkin'/The Adventures of Detective Fubuki Dialogue.
- This is because that the dialogue would have been over 100k bytes if they were merged into one subpage.
- VS. Impostor's gallery was moved to VS. Impostor/Gallery.
- Official Mod extensions:
- Doki Doki Takeover's bad ending was moved to Doki Doki Takeover/Doki Doki Takeover: Bad Ending.
- Friday Night Funkin': Antipathy's extra content was moved to Friday Night Funkin': Antipathy/DLC's.
- Friday Night Funkin' B3 Remixed's extra content was moved to Friday Night Funkin' BE “TOO” Remixed.
What is a stub?
A stub is an article that is deemed too short to where it doesn't provide enough information. These pages could be missing some assets, music, etc. In other words, one could say that a stub page is an unfinished page.
What is a minor edit?
Minor edits are short edits to where it doesn't leave a major impact on a wiki page. These edits can be as small as formatting text, correcting typos/spelling mistakes, or reverting vandalism. To mark an edit as a minor edit, simply click on the checkbox beside "This is a minor edit" in the editor before clicking the "SAVE CHANGES" button.
This is my first time editing and I'm too scared to make changes because I don't want to mess things up. What do I do?
Do not worry. Try to start out small and simple, such as proofreading grammar errors. Such edits require no knowledge of source coding at all. Even if you accidentally made a mistake, there will always be another editor who can fix it for you. If you need help, do not hesitate to ask.
What is a disambiguation?
A disambiguation is the act of distinguishing between things, that may be referred to by the same name. For example, there may be two different mods that use a common character; however, said character has distinct features that one could point out between the two mods (art style, animation, personality, etc). A third mod may use an unrelated character that shares the same name with the character in the other 2 mods.
What is an edit conflict?
When two or multiple users attempt to edit a same page, at the same time, the wiki tries merging those edits together automatically. An edit conflict occurs when the wiki can't merge the edits, due to multiple users changing a same part of that page. For more information, you can check Fandom's article on that subject.
My edit got reverted, what should I do?
Do not panic or get mad if that occurs. A simple misunderstanding might have happened. If your edit was reverted without a given reason, it is best to talk with the user who reverted your edit. Ask them politely why your edit was reverted and explain your end. If all goes well, you can revert back your edit. If however both of you can't find an agreement and things are going downhill, do not act or engage. Instead, let one of the staff members know and let them do their job.
I have been blocked on this wiki. How do I get unblocked?
It's quite frustrating if you get blocked, whether due to vandalism, harassment, or anything else that breaks the rules. If you do get blocked, you can ask for an appeal from the administrator that blocked you if you believe you've been blocked for an unfair reason. To appeal for a block, follow these steps as a guide. If your appeal gets rejected, then you will probably have to wait a while for the block to expire. If you do get blocked indefinitely, you can still get unblocked if an administrator believes you have learned your lesson and won't break the rules again.
Why was my page deleted?
Your page could be deleted for many reasons, but it's mainly because you weren't following the style manual. You should read it before you consider making any more pages, since you're probably new to building an encyclopedia.
Can a deleted page be recovered?
Contrary to popular belief, they can be recovered. If you believe that a page was wrongfully deleted, ask a staff member to revive the page. Do not attempt to recreate a deleted page without permission as it goes against one of the rules of this wiki, specifically Rule #4 under the "Mods Wiki-Specific" section.
Why aren't controversies allowed in the wiki?
The Controversial and Resolved Controversy templates were deleted in November 19, 2022 because, as stated in Rule #6 under the "Mods Wiki-Specific" section, controversy itself "dwells in more on opinionated stances", as the Funkipedia Mods wiki aims for a neutral stance. Also, documenting controversies might cause misinformation.
