Reason: Hololive is the intellectual property of Cover Corp., who has a series of Fan Work Guidelines in place for their characters and productions.
Week 2's first two songs, which were composed by Camellia and are property of the real Gawr Gura and Watson Amelia, will trigger copyright on YT uploads if not cut, even with covers. Also, Week 1 songs are owned by Mori Calliope (in her channel of course).

Hololive Funkin', or just HoloFunk for short, is a mod led by Codexes, where the characters of Friday Night Funkin' are replaced with VTubers both currently and previously associated with Hololive Production.
It is split into two routes, one starring Mano Aloe and Momosuzu Nene as they work to get the former back into the spotlight as an indie musician, and one with Shirakami Fubuki and Ookami Mio as they solve a case of a missing heart necklace, only to stumble across a darker secret.
This mod has become less of a basic reskin and more a full mod, including new songs and all of the sorts related. It currently goes up to Week 5, with plans for more weeks in the future. Update 6.0.0 migrates the entire mod to Unity and deprecates most FNF material, technically making it a fully-independent Hololive fangame instead of an FNF mod. However, owing to its roots, the game's content will continue to be documented here.

Gameplay Mechanics[]
- Spamco - In the Options + Extras menu, a door in the bottom right corner can be seen. Clicking on it after beating Week 6 unlocks "Spamco's" shop, based on Spamton's shop from Deltarune. Here, several additional songs and mechanics can be purchased by using Kromer, which is accumulated from playing other songs. However, the prices fluctuate constantly, requiring the player to time their inputs for when they are low enough to purchase. Items for sale include:
- BIG SHOT for Aloe and Defeat for Fubuki.
- Opponent mode (see below.)
- Test, which in turn is required to unlock Boyfriend.
- PETTANLOVANIA, a Megalovania-themed remix of Killer Scream.
- Alternate characters - In freeplay, the following characters can be selected to replace Aloe or Fubuki:
- Their respective secondary characters, Nene or Mio respectively.
- Botan, mirroring vanilla FNF's intent to make Pico a playable character.
- Boyfriend, with two sets of sprites drawn by CJ and RadioactShark respectively.
- This function does not work for any song that has unique character sprites for Aloe or Fubuki, and/or songs that do not use Boyfriend's voice. This is indicated by a crossed-out CJ!Boyfriend's icon.
- Opponent mode - In the same menu that lets the player change characters, a box can be checked that allows songs to be played on the opponent's side. This does not work for certain songs, indicated by a crossed-out Kaigai-niki.
- Broken Heart Notes - In Red and Black and Haachama EX, black notes that look like broken hearts with colored outlines according to the strum line they are in will appear. They do not instantly kill the player but decrease the maximum health the player can get. The screen will turn black for a moment when hit. They appear more frequently throughout the song.
- During Red and Black, if modcharts have been enabled, the strum line will start to move around, messing with the players ability to read the chart.
- After calling the player a degenerate near the end of Haachama EX, Haachama gets a red afterimage effect, and will drain the HP bar while singing. This will guarantee a loss if they have pressed more than one heart note.
- Passwords - Pressing P on the main menu will bring up a password screen. Valid inputs are revealed by typing in "password;" most are jokes, but three codes will grant access to secret songs. These are not arrangements, but charts for the original audio of several Hololive songs. In place of normal gameplay visuals, their corresponding music videos are played back.
- Entering "sana" unlocks Astrogirl.
- Entering "fubuki" unlocks KONKON Beats.
- Entering "okayu" unlocks Lazyroop.
- Additionally, entering "foobert" unlocks all content in the game.
- During RIP and Mythbuster, if modcharts have been enabled, the notes will be pushed into the middle of the screen at certain points.
- In Mythbuster, the notes will be pushed into middle scroll specifically at the duet part where they sing together four times, every time ending in Aloe singing a few more notes.
- During Glasses, at approximately 1:14, Fubuki begins to ascend. This is a reference to the Tankman Ascends meme due to the song being a Guns cover.
- During Killer Scream, Rushia will drain the player's health while she is singing. There are also "scream" notes on only Rushia's side that turn the screen red for a second. They also drain the player's health more than a regular note.
- The player max health bar can increase as it extends to the left, similarly to Genocide from V.S. TABI.
- During Yummy! and Sinner, Okayu's pixel avatar will begin eating the player's health bar, reducing its capacity by approximately 75%.
- During D.O.O.G, certain notes will flash red. If missed, Korone will strike Aloe or Fubuki with her chainsaw, draining more health than usual. The final attack note will instead have Korone punch Aloe or Fubuki, draining even more health and possibly resulting in an instant loss.
- In the same song, certain sections will either have Aloe pull out a guitar or Fubuki start using her DS. In these sections, the song is charted in 5K instead of 4K.
- During "Paintbucket," Iofi will hit notes made of paint that spill more paint onto the screen. These do not cover up incoming notes, but the flashing lights can serve as a distraction.
- Referencing the shiny mechanic from the Pokemon franchise, there is a 1/4096 chance that Fubuki will start a song with her hair and clothing colored red instead of blue.

Trivia[]
Main Mod[]
- On June 7, 2021, Keaton tweeted about the mod's progress, showcasing Kiryu Coco being the opponent on Week 4. Two days later, Coco would make an announcement about her graduation (retirement), which would take place on July 1, after her final livestream. Keaton would later make a tweet, stating the crew's dedication on honoring the Vtuber through the mod. Another tweet showcases a banner that reveals the release date for the update, being on June 17, which is Coco's official birthday.
- The outfits of many talents depicted in the mod tend to differ from their official costumes in varying amounts, from minor inaccuracies and adaptational liberties in cases such as those of Mori Calliope and Akai Haato to almost-entirely-new costumes in cases such as those of Mano Aloe, Momosuzu Nene, and Gawr Gura.
- This mod is the second after Martian Mixtape to have an opponent intentionally miss in their songs, with Gura and Amelia doing so at scripted points in their songs. When this happens, Gura audibly says "a" while Amelia hiccups in place of the standard record scratch.
- Originally, during Week 3, Uruha Rushia's scream can be occasionally heard when the train passes through the background.
- There was originally a "Boyfriend Mode", which replaced Aloe and Nene with Boyfriend and Girlfriend. This was replaced with the alternate version with Fubuki and Mio in 4.0.0, though 6.0.0 intends to fully implement them as a third character mode.
- Interestingly, Boyfriend had a new spritesheet that had him in a new outfit, and different lore, to quote Hoshida Keaton, "The Boyfriend is not only living in the same world as the HoloFunk girls, but also an angel that dropped out of Heaven University. Usually spending his days living on Earth as a human, he has a tendency to whip out his true form on what he deems special occasions."
- The outfit used for Boyfriend in this version of the mod has since been redesigned to resemble Kanata and given to Kenji, who also possesses a human disguise resembling the original Boyfriend as well. Following the dissolution of the 5.0.0 lore, only the latter (as described in his section on this page) is confirmed to remain canon.
- During the last few moments of the song "Haachama", it uses the same sound effect as Touhou's last 10 second countdown for a spellcard.
- During the last few moments of the song "Killer Scream", the player can hear leitmotifs of Madness from Tricky. It's a reference to the fact that Madness was the first ever song the composers ever tested on Rushia's spritesheet. [1] (check at the pinned comment below the video).
- hololive's 5th Generation was formerly known as holoFive (ほろふぁいぶ) before Mano Aloe's retirement, and are now known as NePoLaBo (ねぽらぼ).[2] hololive's 4th Generation is also known as holoForce (ホロふぉーす)[3]. Lastly, hololive English -Myth-, holoEN's first batch of VTubers, are also known as holoMyth and informally as holoEN 1st Generation.[4]
- This mod's version of "Live Again" is based on the SiIvaGunner rip "Joy - Persona 3".
- In Week 5, there is a poster of the 2nd Hololive English Generation known as Holocouncil; this asset is directly lifted from Cover's promotional material.
- This mod holds or has held numerous current achievements in the community:
- With Tsukumo Sana's inclusion as a cameo in 6.0.0 and intended implementation as a future opponent, she was currently the largest modded character in terms of lore, her size at maximum power eclipsing the Sun. Pluto's Reprisal has since taken the mantle back, however, due to the inclusion of ABY (who is roughly 2.5 times larger than either character.)
- 5.0.0's story has the most amount of lore-relevant crossovers (11 total, including Hololive and FNF.) See below section for specifics.
- The mod itself has the longest known development cycle in the community, currently clocking in at 886 days of confirmed development time.
- This mod, while not the first to be written in a different programming language than vanilla FNF's HaxeFlixel, is the first to be written in Unity.
- Consequently, this mod is also the first to be rewritten into a standalone fangame for a different IP that does not use FNF's source code.
- This mod is the first to reach version 6 in its update history.
- HoloFunk's engine is the first to natively support full-motion video during gameplay. This is demonstrated in the secret songs, which have direct rips of Hololive music videos used as their background.
- A version of Paintbucket with regular instruments over Iofi and Aloe's vocals appears in Idol Showdown, another Hololive fangame that composer GGalactigal works for. This also makes HoloFunk the first FNF mod to be directly referenced in another work that is not another mod, and following Idol Showdown joining the holoIndie label, the first to be referenced in licensed media.
- Quadruple Baka is an extended version of a test for Aloe and Fubuki's unique vocals introduced in 6.0.0.
- The mod features an alternate build meant for use by actual Hololive members. This removes most overt references to licensed media and does not include any content related to Rushia.
5.0.0 Only[]
Prior to update 6.0.0, HoloFunk was a full crossover with vanilla FNF, several mods, and several more works of third-party media, complete with alternate character details and large amounts of worldbuilding to hold the characters featured.
Due to irreparable tonal and taste issues plus internal conflict, these story details were scrapped; the mod now focuses solely on Hololive in all aspects, sans the inclusion of Boyfriend and Girlfriend as extras. It is currently the wishes of the developer team to not discuss the former story unsolicited. There are absolutely no public plans to revisit it whatsoever.
- The Mano Clan was one of the demon-Yakuza "families" that sided against the Dearest Mob. Their leader, Mamoru Mano, adopted Aloe and her twin brother out of repentance after having been conned into killing their biological father (the previous Daddy Dearest) when they were infants, living life as a renegade against them ever since. While her brother was eventually consumed by the mob life and ultimately turned against his family entirely by defecting to the Dearests, Aloe had no interest in the "family's" unsavory operations, instead pursuing a career in music and later fleeing to the surface to assume a human identity.
- As for Mamoru himself, he would be killed by a grenade intended for Aloe after Daddy Dearest discovered her existence during an otherwise-failed raid on a Mano Kai property.
- The original Friday Night Funkin' is a PS1 game in this universe. The reason there wasn't a sequel is because Ninjamuffin Games made the mistake of basing the game's Daddy Dearest off of the real deal in this universe. They quickly filed for bankruptcy due to the Dearest Mob pulling a number of strings.
- Despite this, there are several implications that this version of FNF is not analogous to reality, with several plot points like Pico's entire character and Week 7 only occurring in Kenji's real life. As a result, this technically makes HoloFunk 5.0.0 a fan sequel to vanilla regardless, only with the entire setting shifted to an alternate Japan.
- Through the mod's extended universe, it is revealed that a total of nine separate continuities (not counting FNF and Hololive) are merged together to create the story of HoloFunk:
- Pico's School is referenced as a school shooting that happened while Boyfriend/Kenji, Kanata, and Uto were still students.
- Kiryu Kazuma is an important background character who retains his experiences from the original Yakuza video game series and uses them to guide Aloe, Kenji, and several other lore characters before the events of the mod.
- Western VTuber agency VShojo is canon to the mod as the origin of Nyakemi Nyamada, a lore character cloned from a fragment of Nyatasha Nyanners' true form.
- Amatsuka Uto is a third-party VTuber appearing as a lore character in the form of one of Kenji and Kanata's fellow alumni.
- Dancho Tsume is another third-party VTuber appearing as a lore character, mentioned to be another victim of Daddy Dearest.
- Carol is one of Hana's friends, and appears at the same time the latter meets Kenji.
- Tabi is an angel who used to perform with Hana as part of a four-man band. The events of his mod are heavily implied to be involved in its dissolution.
- A.G.O.T.I. was another one of Hana's bandmates, until being tossed into the void per Friday Night Funkin': Entity canon. It is unknown if the remainder of the Entity cast was meant to appear with him.
- Whitty was the last of Hana's bandmates, until disappearing under mysterious circumstances and resurfacing as one of Aloe's coworkers. This version of him was implied to be a mix of the original and Julian T. Whitmore, hinted at by his new full name of "Jules M. Whitmore."
- The name "Daddy Dearest" itself is just a title bestowed to the boss of the Dearest Mob. His real name is Kouta Kurayami, but the awkwardly heroic-sounding first name has led him to keep it a secret.
- Kenji exists as a headcanon cousin to Amane Kanata, which is an inversion of the usual trope with Boyfriend that instead headcanons other characters as his relatives.
- Unlike Boyfriend, Kenji has roughly average intelligence along with Girlfriend's counterpart (named Hana) and, while introverted, does not speak in "beep-boops" towards strangers.
- "Tensei" is Japanese for "heavenly star," reflecting the star motifs present in both Kenji and Kanata's appearances.
- Towa's hair is not naturally purple in the mod, but is brown like the rest of the Dearests. The purple color came from an attempt to dye it blue, only to botch the job while bleaching and instead creating the color most are familiar with.
