Coming from the Yakuza series, Kazuma Kiryu (一馬 桐生, Kiryū Kazuma) originally took the place of Daddy Dearest in a mod made by SodaReishii, which eventually became a full week mod of it's own. The original creator will be linked here, also the full week mod - the idea for the mod was created by J-Bug, an animator who works on Friday Night Funkin'-inspired content.
Appearance
Kazuma Kiryu is a middle-aged man from modern Japan, involved in a yakuza (the Japanese equivalent to a mafia) by the name of the Tojo Clan. He dons a variety of outfits throughout his home games, but here he wears the one attributed to his first appearance, Yakuza - a light grey suit jacket, suit pants, and a red dress shirt (maroon in the original franchise) with an upturned collar. He also wears white loafers and a black leather belt with a silver buckle. He wears his hair in a messy, slicked back style complemented by his goatee.
Trivia
- Interestingly, his shirt is slightly off-color in the mod as compared to his home franchise.
- The silver watch he frequently wears in his home franchise appears to be absent as well.
- Though Kazuma Kiryu is commonly associated to the song Baka Mitai, or more commonly referred to as Dame Da Ne, it was not the song J-Bug used for the animation inspiring the mod. The animation instead used a song called "DISCERNMENT" by Yamahearted which, however, contained snippets of the song.
- The version of Kiryu that wears the monolens shades seen in his "shades variant" sprite appears in the original animation after a Smash Cut that leads into the "imagine" section of the song, which is accompanied by a dimmer atmosphere and disco-style lights.
- In the full VS. Kiryu mod, as you go onto the main menu, you can hear a mashup of Funk Goes On from the original Yakuza PS2 game and Gettin' Freaky. All of the remixes for the full week were done by Matt$, except for DISCERNMENT, made by Yamahearted.
- His outfit, along with his sunglasses, cause him to bear somewhat of a resemblance to The Helltaker from the game Helltaker. However, as Kiryu was created long before Helltaker, this is simply just a coinciedence.
- The pose that Kiryu preforms in the title screen is very similar to a pose he preforms in his most recognized appearance Yakuza 0, that pose being the one he preforms at the beginning of the Maharaja disco minigame.
- In early 2022, the programmer for the original mod released a touched up re-release of the mod.
Cameos in Other Mods
Note: None of these cameos are canon to the mod's story.
- In Hololive Funkin', Kiryu is an important background character and the protagonist of the mod's prequel story The Dragon's Pizzeria. It is also heavily implied Coco's knowledge of the song Hands from her week came from Kiryu during the events of what would have been Yakuza 6, and Coco's Kiryu clan from her own lore is in fact the remnants of Kazuma Kiryu's own under new management.
