Proto Boyfriend, so to be renamed FNF: Into the boyfriendverse[2], is a mod directed by Red-Bun.
Boyfriend and Girlfriend have been teleported to another universe, one that looks pretty close to the old sketches from before Friday Night Funkin's first build. After finding a blue variation of himself, Boyfriend and his Girlfriend start to ask where they are, how they got there, and how they can get out.

Proto Boyfriend was created from an alternate universe, known as a Prototype Universe, and has been there for the good portion of his life. One day, BF and GF accidentally get teleported into his realm and ask him questions to how they got there, and how to get out. During the last song, he gets out and goes for a new life outside of the Prototype Universe.
Appearance
He looks somewhat like the current Boyfriend, except he has a slightly different style, thicker eyebrows and eyes, no sign on his shirt, and shaggier hair. Along with that, he is completely sky blue, with darker blue outlines.
During the last song, his outlines are now black and he becomes fully colored. He has dark blue shoes, a red shirt with a white smiley, peach skin, cyan hair, and a blue cap with a black brim.

Appearance
Loading Screen BF looks like the original BF, having his red cap, same cyan haircut, and mostly the same clothes, except his outlining is sharper, his colors are more neon, his shoe colors are inverted, and he's wearing a sweater instead of a shirt.

Trivia
- Prototype BF was based off the official first design of FNF' made by PhantomArcade for the FNF' 1st Year Anniversary.
- There is an extra difficulty named Sketchy. It functions as a harder version of hard, but it doesn't feature any new mechanics. It is described as "Osu!Mania charting" on the Gamebanana Page.
- Testing has multiple references references to base FNF's songs, including Test (as the instrumental,) Satin Panties (0:37), Spookeez (0:40), Fresh (0:57), M.I.L.F (1:44,) and Blammed (1:55) along with a reference to Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up" as part of the chorus.
- Along with this, Ridged has a leitmotif of Guns.
- In Finalization, there can be a ear piercing sound in it's instrumental. This sound comes from the source code for the game known as "c_z.mp3".
- As the dialogue mentions, in Ease, the song is completely a single-player song due to Proto BF being shy until the very end, where he starts singing the final part.
- Girlfriend's crying pose has a mistake in where her face is regularly colored for 3 frames out of 5.
- Girlfriend also has a scared animation found in her FLA that goes unused in the mod.
- In the demo for Proto BF (which is now privated), he had very different icons while standard BF's icons were unchanged from the base game. This wasn't until the full release where BF himself got two new sets of icons and Proto BF's icons were changed to the ones in the current release of the mod.
- (Red-Bun Note) Also at the end of the demo, a teaser for a mod was announced. It was gonna be called "Funk To The Past" (eventually renamed to Friday Night Flashback) but it never went into production. This teaser was shown to include Thomas The Tank Engine, TMNT (Donatello), Homer Simpson, Sonic, Rugrats (Tommy Pickles) & Spongebob. The mod was cancelled due to development drama.

- A new difficulty will be added called "Wasted" adding clock notes. This mechanic is confirmed to be unfinished in the current dev build.
- The Easy & Hard difficulties will be removed and the Normal difficulty is just Hard mode.
- 3 Freeplay songs (possibly more) will be added to the mod. Songs include Glitcher Remix, ZZZZZZZZ & Roses Two.
- Joshua from the original game files will be in the mod.
- Previously existing icons will be getting revamped.
- When Proto BF mentions a group of three Boyfriends named "Negative" in Testing, he's referring to the Minus gang from Friday Night Funkin' Minus. This explains the song references in said song.
- Also when Proto BF says "So that's why I haven't seen that girl around recently." This references GF's old design from the concept sketch; making fun of the fact that her design barely changed during development.
- He and BF also mention Ritz The Rat in Finalization's dialogue.
