Reason: Gorefield is based off an art series and later a subreddit, which later got a series made by Lumpy Touch in the Gameboy Style. The art, series, and subreddit have really dark themes and visuals. Also, Boyfriend's old losing icon can be considered quite gory.

Vs. Gorefield is a complete-week mod developed by Jloor, ZeroArtist and BitfoxOriginal. The mod is centered around Lumpy Touch's Garfield: GAMEBOY'D animations. which are also based off of an Internet phenomenon of horrendous Garfield-like creatures commonly referred to as "Gorefield".[2]
Within the mod, there are fan-created versions of Gorefield content, other Garfield fan media, and even some content based on official Garfield content as well.
Trivia[]
- The mod was uploaded on a Tuesday (March 15), and not the day before (Monday), despite being finished by then.
- This was intentional, as Garfield and by extension Gorefield absolutely hate Mondays.
- V2 WAS SUPPOSED TO BE the exact same way for the same reason. Now it's not due to the Dev conflict.
- This mod is one of the few mods to use animated icons.
- Most of Gorefield's icons, as well as post-explosion Boyfriend's, have slight line boiling, but his losing icons for his true forms have a more notable shaking animation.
- Some other mods that use animated icons include FNF Lullaby, Dusttale Mod, Entity Origins, and others.
- Most of Gorefield's icons, as well as post-explosion Boyfriend's, have slight line boiling, but his losing icons for his true forms have a more notable shaking animation.
- The creator of this mod also made FNF Skeleton Bros.
- Sans from the same mod also appears via cutscene before Cat Petella.
- The bf sprites at the beginning of Cat Petella are reused from that mod.
- The mod is also available to be translated in Spanish, as seen in the cutscenes with English and Spanish versions of all the words.
- The tip for Hi Jon references an infamous quote from Gorefield after reaching his final form in the original sketches/animations - "The world is going to end, Jon."
- In Lumpy's animations, this is said by Gorefield right before the government drops a nuke on the city to destroy Gorefield, which he then saves Jon from by absorbing him and flying away into the night, showing he always loved him.
- The song also is featured in the original Garfield Gameboy'd Series. Which may be the main inspiration for this leitmotif instead.[3]
- Jacadamia, the artist behind the original "Jon, Take Me With You" video, approved the "Take Me Jon" song.[4]
Gameplay Mechanics[]
- Loading Screen Tips: Before each song, a cutscene will play, giving you a heads-up and tip to beat the corresponding song. The tips can be found in the category below.
- Shotgun Notes: During The Great Punishment, Reload and Shoot notes will appear on all four strum lines. Failing to hit even one of the notes will cause you to blueball.
- HUD Zoom Out: During some of the songs, the HUD will zoom out and tilt back and forth.
- Finite Lives: As said in one of the tips, during the rest of the songs after Curious Cat in the Principal Week, you will have a health bar. Touching mine notes will cause this bar to decrease. If you lose all your lives, you blueball..
- Claw Notes: During Metamorphosis, Hi Jon, and Terror in the Heights, claw notes will appear occasionally. Hitting these notes will make you lose one life.
- Gorefield Notes: During the end of Metamorphosis and Hi Jon, notes portraying Gorefield's head will appear. These function similarly to the claw notes, however they do damage to you and trigger a loud, screen-shaking jumpscare. Unlike with the claw notes, hitting these does not cause you to lose a life.
- Heal Notes: During Terror in the Heights and BIGotes, heal notes will appear occasionally. Hitting them will restore one life if the player lost any.
- Fist Notes: During BIGotes, fist notes will appear occasionally. These function similarly to the claw notes, however hitting them will remove two lives instead of one.
- Warning Notes: During Fast Delivery, when Gorefield is on-screen, warning notes will appear. Missing one will cause you to blueball.
- Blue and Orange Notes: During Mondaylovania and ULTRA FIELD, blue and orange notes will appear throughout the song. Blue notes must be missed and orange notes must be hit. Doing the opposite for either of them will cause you to lose a small amount of health.
- Miss Limit: During Cryfield and Nocturnal Meow, the player will have a limited amount of times they can miss (four in Cryfield, twelve in Nocturnal Meow).
- Two Strumlines: During Balls of Yarn, the player will have to control both of the strumlines that are on the screen.
- Health Drain: During Captive, after Jon shows up, he will have really strong health drain.
- Very Low Health: During the last 30 seconds of Captive, the player will have very low health and the health bar will disappear.

Accessing Laughter and Cries[]
Pressing Tab while viewing the Freeplay menu will take the player to a peeping hole with bars around and a pair of eyes behind the bars, looking at the player. This is Arlene, who has been trapped in what appears to be a cell judging by the bars, and she'll ask Boyfriend (And by extension, the player) to help set her free, and in order to do so, the player must find notes left by Binky the Clown in the backgrounds of different songs:
- The first note is located behind the painting of Odie in The Great Punishment.
- The second note is located under the rightmost tree in the background of Cat Patella.
- The third note is located on the wall behind Cryfield in Cryfield's week, just above Cryfield himself.
- The fourth and final note is located in the background of Hi Jon. Binky's hint in the third note says it's hidden in a pile of rubble, near an explosion, referencing how Jon activates a bomb to blow up Gorefield and destroys his house in the process, but the note can be found sitting on the right corner of the cat picture long before Jon detonates the bomb.
The notes themselves have corny jokes from Binky written on the back of them, as well as hints to digits for the code needed to access his song:
- The first digit for the code is the second digit on the current date in which the player is playing the mod. For example: If the player is playing on the 16th day of the month, then the first digit will be '6'.
- The second digit for the code is the second digit on the player's accuracy for their highest score. First, the player must check all of their scores on the songs in order to find the highest one. For example, their highest score is 666,8000 on BIGotes, and their accuracy on the song is 84.27%. In this case, the second digit will be '4' (be sure to check all current accurate scores).
- The third digit is the sum of the number of songs in the mod that start with the letter 'C' minus the number of songs that start with the letter 'M'. There are 5 songs that start with the letter 'C': Curious Cat, Cat Patella, Cryfield, Cataclysm and Captive. There are 2 songs that start with the letter 'M': Metamorphosis and Mondaylovania. 5 - 2 = 3, making '3' the third digit of the code. While the other digits of the code will be randomised for all players as the dates in which they're playing the mod and the accuracy on their highest scores will all be different, the third digit will always be the same for everyone.
- The fourth and final digit is the number of songs in which the player fights a "god" plus the first digit on the minutes of the clock. The number of songs in this case is 1, as there's only one god in the entire mod, that being Godfield. As for the digits on the clock, an example is the time being 7:45, meaning the first digit on the minutes will be '4'. In this case, 1 + 4 = 5, and '5' will be the final digit for the code. On account of time always moving, this digit will constantly change depending on when the player is playing the mod.

Leitmotifs[]
- Hi Jon has a leitmotif of Don't Cry Jennifer from Clock Tower. This is because of a popular Gmod video showing Gorefield chasing the player while that song plays.
- Garfield Gameboy'd also uses said song in Part 1.
- Metamorphosis has a leitmotif of the Credits theme from Garfield Gameboy'd.
- Cat Patella has a leitmotif of Interstellar Retribution by Rock Candy.
