Reason: RetroSpecter is a popular musician on YouTube known for his Friday Night Funkin' remixes. Not to mention that Part 1 took 5 months to make, so of course it deserves the Golden Throne!

Friday Night Funkin' vs. RetroSpecter is a mod created by RetroSpecter. In this mod, Boyfriend will be facing off each member of the seven deadly sins. The mod is currently on Part 1.75. More content will be coming soon to this page. Note: At least 16GB RAM is recommended to play this mod. The minimum required is 8 GB.

Gameplay Mechanics

Notes

Poison Notes: In Spectral ,Ectospasm and Corruptro; shiny, green notes containing poison will appear throughout the songs. While Berserker Retro can hit them just fine, hitting these notes will cause the player's health to get drained for the rest of the song. The more notes the player hits, the faster their health will drain. However, the poison's effects will not kill the player directly. In Corruptro, the notes are black and pink to represent the Corruption, but otherwise function exactly the same.
Spectre Notes: In Ectospasm and Corruptro, the player's notes will slowly become invisible, however by hitting the Spectre notes, they will revert back to normal.
Heart Note: At the end of Ectospasm, one last note will appear. Hitting this note will unlock Fuzzy Feeling.
Ice Notes: In Icebreaker, Ice Notes will appear. Hitting these notes will freeze the player's control for 2 seconds.
- Blizzard also appears and it makes the screen blurry.

Strike lines

The strike lines will constantly rock in all songs.
In Ectospasm, the strike lines will slowly become invisible.
The strike lines will sometimes rotate around.

Story

Wrath

Boyfriend and Girlfriend somehow appear in RetroSpecter's domain, or the gates of Wrath. RetroSpecter noticed the two and greeted them. Boyfriend wanted to go to "The City," but RetroSpecter said that Boyfriend must prove his worth by challenging him to a singing battle. After successfully winning Satisfracture against RetroSpecter, he already becomes enraged and transforms into Berserker Retro. Despite the change of scenery and making the duel even more challenging, Boyfriend still wins against RetroSpecter. The demon of Wrath smashes the ground in anger and envelops himself in green flames.

The story ends on a cliffhanger and will continue soon.

Wrath

Boyfriend somehow appear in the sports field where RetroSpecter or also known as Metro in this story is "exorcising". Boyfriend corrects him by saying that he meant exercising. He said English is stupid afterwards. Metro wants Boyfriend to test out his vocal "chords" with him to see who's the better singer. Boyfriend once again corrects his grammar and Metro was angry by this. After successfully winning Preseason against Metro, Metro said that Boyfriend will be in his "sites". Once again, Boyfriend corrects him by saying that he meant sights. Metro became enraged with this and throws a football at Boyfriend, killing him. However, with his power to "retry", Boyfriend comes back to life. 3 weeks later, students gathered up at the sports field to watch the battle between Team Heaven and Team Hell. Atrocean and Dozirc are the commentators at this battle. However, Dozirc seems to be sleeping during the battle because he represents the sin of Sloth. Metro is surprised that Boyfriend showed up after what happened 3 weeks ago. Boyfriend gets a bit hot-headed after hearing the remark. Sakuroma or also known as Maku in this story seems to be cheerleading for Metro. Metro is confused where he should go to after Maku said "GO METROOOOO!" After successfully winning Sigma against Metro, Atrocean thinks that Metro may be struggling with the new rookie. Metro says he's not struggling just getting started. During Acidiron, Metro seems tired while keeping up with Boyfriend. Around the 3 minute mark, Metro sings his last note with it progressively getting weaker, until BF is left to solo for the remainder of the song. BF not only kept up but outsped Metro, outright contradicting himself. After successfully winning Acidiron against Metro, Atrocean says that Boyfriend won the battle by a landslide, causing Metro to lash out in rage at Maku, who then quips 'Then cheer at him or something, I don't know!' Preppy then begins. Afterward, Metro, Atrocean, and even Mozy are surprised at Maku's singing. Maku feels bad about it at first, but in an act of kindness, Metro compliments her, with BF and GF following suit. 'What? No, not at all! I had no idea you were such a great singer.' 'Beep boop!' ':D' Maku is flustered. Then, Metro asks for Maku to sing with him. She happily accepts. Metro warns BF that they're going all out, and Overtime begins. Atrocean then comments about he was floored by all 3 participants singing. Mozy thinks it was cool. Then, Metro then lets Boyfriend know if he needs someone to spot him, he can let him know. 'I know at least 52 workout routines. Maku then says she knows 126 poses. 'Flexibility is My middle name!' BF and GF then happily leave.

Development

RetroSpecter has spent money on the mod's development. However, the total budget is still unknown due to controversy. ^[2]^[3] The teasers alone have funded the mod's development along with some of RetroSpecter's YouTube ad revenue.^[4] One of the first things the development team did was creating the default/loss health bar icons. However, the plan to add winning icons would not appear until later in development. Sakuroma's icons came even later since it was not planned by the team to add her in Part 1.^[5] For art, it completely started with a sketch of RetroSpecter's idle pose.^[6]

The following song names are named after the following: Retro, is named after the first half of the name, RetroSpecter;^[7] Spectral is named after the second half of the name, RetroSpecter;^[8] Satisfracture is a combination of "satisfying" and "fracture";^[9] Ectospasm is a combination of "ectoplasm" and "spasm". The term "spasm" is included, because players will typically have hand spasms when playing the song;^[10] and Fuzzy Feeling is a shortened version of "warm fuzzy feelings", a phrase used to describe how people feel when they meet someone they like or love.^[11]

Reception

Overall, the mod has received praise and positive feedback due to its high quality. Users have begun to make fan art and remixes of both RetroSpecter and Sakuroma where even the director himself appreciates it.^[12] 5 days prior to its release, the mod has already hit at least 200k views and 50k downloads on GameBanana. As a result, the mod has received a "Fan Favorite" category on the wiki.^[13] Afterwards, the mod got onto the wiki's Hall of Fame.^[14]

Retro I just wanted to have fun with character dialogue combinations, but having your own sona and the incarnation of Lust, made it hard.
Retro So I resorted to "Haha sex", but people took that as me projecting my own fetishes into my passion project.
Retro Do I wanna bang the moth? Of course. A lot of people I know do. But this moth has also really messed up some stuff.
Retro A lot of my friends can't even see Saku the same way anymore because of the way some of her fans act towards her in public.

Trivia (General)

In Story mode, player can only choose Boyfriend. Fun-sized RetroSpecter and Ace are unlocked after beating Story Mode; RetroSpecter will have different dialogues for each character.
For Satisfracture, RetroSpecter had to record "enough" as quiet, but intimidating, as possible due to Kamex sleeping in the other room.^[15]
During Spectral and Ectospasm, you could see characters from other mods, including:

  - However, in Vs. RetroSpecter 1.75, the characters who appeared as symbols in Spectral and Ectospasm are being replaced by mod team members (Sakuroma, Izzurius, Insatian, Hivmine, Atrocean and Dozirc are the exceptions) due to Retro, planning to leave the FNF community at some day (presumably after finishing the mod).
In the Spectral song, the game over screen shows Boyfriend being dismembered by his acids.
The vision-restoring arrows in Ectospasm are officially called 'Spectre Arrows' by RetroSpecter himself.^[16]
You can unlock Fuzzy Feeling by writing the first paragraph of the rosy maple moth Wikipedia page without spaces or punctuations, or simply "MOMMYMOTHYMILKIES", in the Story menu.
Fuzzy Feeling has an intentional Sonic reference 29 seconds into the song, specifically a reference to Sonic 3 & Knuckles: Lava Reef Zone Act 1's theme, along with almost having the same tempo.^[17]
- The leitmotif of CORE from "Undertale" found in the song was revealed as a coincidence in the same tweet.
There is a leitmotif reference of Thorns, in Ectospasm 1 minute and 13 seconds into the song.
- It also has a leitmotif reference of High right before the previously mentioned reference.
You can unlock the True Hell difficulty for Ectospasm if you lose 7 times.
In Spectral and Ectospasm, Berserker Retro has a special winning icon that only shows when Boyfriend is at the least amount of health possible. (completely winning icon)
- When this happens, it causes the health bar to shake and the icons gain a glitchy effect.
Whenever Berserker Retro hits a Right Held note, it will cause Girlfriend's hair to blow to the right direction for the duration of the held note.
- In Spectral, this is very noticable in between 0:55 and 1:13, when both BF and retro are hitting several long notes
Retrospecter has 102 death lines every time Boyfriend dies in "Ectospasm", making him one of the characters that has the most death lines, out beating Tankman.
- In death 32, there is a "Team Fortress 2" reference; specifically, the Heavy. ("You are so small! Is funny to me!")
- In deaths 49-58, the creator rants about his past in real life experience.
- In death 69, RetroSpecter reveals that he has two d***s.
Wrath Week is going to have a third phase, based off of the leaks from part 2.^[18]
RetroSpecter claims that he was in agony for keeping quiet about the mod for 4 months before its release.^[19]
If people wish to support the mod, they can donate money to RetroSpecter's PayPal.^[20]
If players beat Ectospasm legitimately, the player will receive an animated badge of the symbol of Wrath at the corner of the screen.^[21]
After being marked as an NSFW mod on GameBanana due to other users red flagging it as inappropriate because of Sakuroma's design and appearance,^[22] RetroSpecter will "push the boundaries" of Lust's week.^[23]
In the files of the mod, in the images folder you can find a PNG of a coconut that features the text "This is a coconut. It's existence is vital to this mod. If you get rid of this coconut, all hell will break loose. Do. Not. Delete. The. Coconut." possibly as a reference to a commonly believed myth that a coconut found in TF2's files would break the game when removed.
