Reason: When Whitty screams after Overhead, the screen shakes quite violently. In the new update, Ballistic has a lot of screen shaking. Whitty's backstory is also quite sad. He is constantly being hunted down by Updike which causes him to have a tremendous amount of anxiety and stress. It is mentioned in the trivia that Whitty was going to have a 4th song that was going to be somewhat slow and sad as he would then be captured by Updike. Whitty's Ballistic songs are loud, mostly Ballistic and Ballistic (HQ).

This mod is currently a demo and/or has upcoming content that is confirmed to be in development, either confirmed on a livestream, a tweet, or any other verified source of information.
Upcoming: Sock.clip recently released a new Whitty song on her channel and it's safe to assume that it's for an update to the mod. [1]
Vs Whitty: Definitive Edition is a bonus week which became a reality after a massive amount of requests and support. It is an expansion of the original Whitty mod, created by Nate Anim8 and coded by KadeDev. After the release, many people were surprised. This mod stars Whitty, the short, fused bomb that used to be a rockstar and his friends (or foes?). It is one of the most popular Friday Night Funkin' mods within the community and has inspired other full week mods to be made.
The mod was discontinued for a long time and an update has been released as its own mod, titled The Date Week. For the mod's 1 year anniversary, it was announced that there would be an upcoming update involving new mechanics, cutscenes and much more.
Plot
Boyfriend, after his difficult journey in gaining the approval of his love interest's father and mother, decides to bring Girlfriend around the city to find some people to battle through sick beats since it's an activity that everyone just seems to partake in without question. Girlfriend comes across something strange while passing by a very suspicious back alley, there's an ominous orange light at the end. Curious, Boyfriend and Girlfriend walk in. Upon entering the alleyway, they see a tall, lanky figure looking down upon ashes; having just got through burning something. Feeling confident that this could be a pretty good opportunity for a little tune battle, Boyfriend beeps at the figure.
The figure turns and it's none other than Whitmore, otherwise known as Whitty. Girlfriend somewhat recognizes him, only really knowing that he's a rock-star with a serious grudge against her parents. Of course, this doesn't stop her from pulling out a boombox as Boyfriend challenges Whitty despite the latter clearly wanting nothing to do with them.
After Lo-Fight, Whitty begins to become more irritated and 'suggests' that Boyfriend should “die in a ditch instead”.
After Overhead, Whitty snaps and has an emotional breakdown, demanding Boyfriend and Girlfriend to leave him alone. He curses Boyfriend and his parents for giving birth to him, but Boyfriend doesn't seem to care about Whitty's sanity, let alone consider the danger of the situation. It is unknown what happens after the song ends. In the new cutscene, Whitty shows more anger through dialogue and states he will enjoy atomizing Girlfriend. This is also before Ballistic begins.
Characters
Boyfriend
Boyfriend is the main protagonist of Friday Night Funkin'. He is the only playable character in Vs. Whitty: Definitive Edition.
Appearance
Boyfriend is a young, light-skinned man with spiky cyan hair and black eyes that wear a confident expression with a smile. He wears a white shirt with a red prohibition sign, a backward red cap with blue brim, blue pants and red shoes with white laces. He also holds a microphone with his right hand, while keeping his left hand in his pocket.
His appearance changes twice during Julian's songs. In the wireframe segment of Underground, Boyfriend becomes black with cyan outlines. In Hungry, Boyfriend is dressed in a WcDonald's employee uniform that consists of a black cap with a yellow "W" on it, a black button-up shirt with nametag, black pants and black sneakers. Instead of microphone, he holds a cellphone.
In the secret song Faucet, Boyfriend's appearance is drastically changed to where he's all white with thin outlines. When singing, he has a realistic grayscale right hand. He becomes blue as he flops on the floor when performing his left miss and up miss animations. For his down miss animation, he becomes Greg Heffley from the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. For his right miss animation, he becomes a hot dog on a bun with mustard. Upon getting a game over, he becomes a lemon. When retrying, an image of Eminem appears.
As of the SiIva Update, his appearance changes in the following high-quality rips:
- In Ballistic (HQ), Boyfriend wears a rat mask, a green jacket, a pair of green gloves, navy-blue pants, and black sneakers. Instead of a microphone, he wields a gun in his right hand.
- In Ballistic (Beta Mix), Charles Barkley's face has been pasted over Boyfriend's. Upon getting a game over, Charles Barkley's face becomes inverted, and Boyfriend's blue balls are replaced with basketballs.
- In Underground (In-Game Mix), Boyfriend stands on a Smash Bros. trophy platform.
- Prior to singing in Hungry (HQ), Boyfriend does a pog expression as he points to his cellphone while briefly looking at the player.
Trivia
- Boyfriend's appearance in Ballistic (HQ) is based on Richter from Hotline Miami.
- The gun in Boyfriend's hand is Richter's signature Silenced Uzi.
Whitty
“...Don't make me do this.”
― Whitty
Were you looking for the Date Week with Whitty and Carol?
Whitmore, more commonly known as Whitty, is a short tempered ex-rock star. He has a troubled past with Girlfriend's parents, specifically her father.
Appearance
Whitty appears as a humanoid character with bright orange eyes and a black bomb for a head. He wears a dark turquoise hoodie, brown trousers and orange sneakers.
When losing his temper, he achieves an odd state where Whitty completely changes the color of himself and his surroundings. He's a little brighter in design and his eyes wildly flash from a square, to triangle, to circle, to plus signs and crosses.
As of the SiIva Update, his appearance changes in the following SiIvaGunner rips that were included in the mod:
- In Overhead (HQ), Whitty wears a yellow coat with matching bowtie, a black shirt with matching pants and black shoes.
- In Ballistic (HQ), Whitty wears a rooster mask, a brown letterman jacket with an imprinted "B" on its left, blue pants and a pair of white shoes that appears to have splattered blood on it. He also holds a baseball bat with his right hand.
- In Ballistic (Beta Mix), his head is edited to look like a basketball.
Biography
Whitty was made by a doomsday cult[8] and was incubated in a facility where he developed. He was also constantly being injected with unknown samples of DNA along with growing in a spherical-shaped caged, he was given a bomb-like appearance.
Whitty was born in a facility alone. He got his name from a name tag, the very first object that he has ever held. Eventually, he learned the English language and was able to read the name "Whitmore" on the name tag and decided to go by that name. Shortly after, he shortened Whitmore to Whitty and decided to go by that name instead.
Whitty was also rivals with Updike sometime during his life. However, their relations got worse after Updike was specialized by a taskforce called "The Greater Good" and was tasked to imprison and destroy creatures like Whitty. Whitty has been on the run ever since. Being on the run has given Whitty a tremendous amount of stress and anxiety ever since due to the fact that he is constantly trying to not be caught by Updike's taskforce.
Trivia
- Whitty only had the Overhead song when he was first released as a replacement for Daddy Dearest.
- Whitty's fuse sometimes sticks straight up whenever he feels immense shock.[9]
- Whitty is asexual.
- When Whitty sings in Ballistic, his entire body changes to the color of the notes.
- Whitty's attire in Overhead (HQ) is based on Bruno Mars's outfit, specifically the one he wore at the 2012 Grammy Awards.
- Whitty's appearance in Ballistic (HQ) is based on Jacket's outfit from Hotline Miami, with the rooster mask based on the Richard Mask from the very same game.

Julian T. Whitmore
“I have no money”
― Julian, Sock.clip's art
Julian BiTch Whitmore[12] is an unlockable opponent in Vs. Whitty Definitive Edition. He was originally going to be a retelling of the original Whitty.[13]
Appearance
Julian is a dark-skinned man with slicked-back shoulder length hair that he ties into a ponytail, as well as orange eyes with small light-yellow pupils. He wears a dark cyan t-shirt, a zipped-up cyan jacket, orange track shorts with white strands going down the sides and a pair of beige socks.
During one part in Underground, his whole body turns maroon, and he gains heavy orange line boil. During this, he becomes slightly more simplified in design, losing his hair line, jacket, and shading, and his microphone gets a line grid. During this, his eyes turn into white circles with scribbled filling.
After said part, he regains his colors and looks like he originally was, save for his jacket, which is now gone because he threw it off before the 1st wire-frame segment.
In Hungry, Julian wears a dark cyan t-shirt with beige shorts. He also doesn't tie his hair into a ponytail, revealing how long it is. He also holds a telephone with both hands.
As of the SiIva Update, he wears a black shirt with a Superman logo in Underground (In-Game Mix).
Game Mechanics
- Wireframe Section: During some parts in Underground, the screen will wireframe itself, making everything become one specific color and black. This has no effect gameplay-wise, however, Julian seems to turn into a semi-ballistic form with a wireframe design. The background during this part also shares similarities to the background in Ballistic.
Trivia
- Both Underground and Low-Rise are remixes of Overhead and Lo-Fight respectively.
- Julian was originally added to the mod as an extra character in the anniversary update.
- Carol is not romantically interested in Julian.[14]
- Hungry is a reference to is0kenny's parody series called "Asking Rappers What They Want To Eat" with the first, like Hungry, being a parody of "Ballin" by Roddy Ricch where the titular rapper is telling his friend what he'd like him to bring back from McDonald's.
- He's canonically a big jokester.[15]
- According to Nate Anim8, Julian is not aware of "original" Whitty's existence but is instead him in an alternate universe/timeline.[16]
- His up and down slightly energetic Underground poses are similar to Whitty's up and down poses respectively.
- His eyes during his wireframe poses match Whitty's eyes in his Ballistic poses.
- However, his eyes in his left wireframe pose show triangles, and the right pose shows plus-signs.
- His tongue is orange.
- Sock.Clip stopped liking Julian mid-development, but he was ultimately added into the Definitive Edition because she had already put too much work into his sprites, and Nitty Gritty's song would not make sense without Julian.[17]
- The "salad and sex combo" sign in Hungry's background is a reference to Week 5's background in the base game, in which one of the store signs has "Salads and Sex" written on it.
- In the mod files, two .WAV files can be found. While listening to them, the player can hear Julian's talking, along with Boyfriend's beeps.
- Those files could've been used for a cutscene in Julian's week. Because the intro cutscene was never made for Julian, the .WAV files went unused.
- Julian's shirt in Underground (In-Game Mix) is a reference to the YouTuber Angry Joe.
- Despite having a post-wireframe idle pose for Underground (In-Game Mix), Julian doesn't have any post-wireframe singing poses for that song.
- Julian's middle initial "T." stands for "BiTch".[12]

Nitty Gritty
“EVERYONE KNOWS YOU'RE HERE”
― Nitty Gritty, Sock.clip's art
Nitty Gritty is a secret character in Vs. Whitty Definitive Edition. This character strongly resembles Julian, but is a separate character.[19]
He exists in response to leaks for the mod, as an anonymous 4chan /funkg/ user had gotten a leak of Julian prior to the release of Definitive Edition from SandPlanet, reproduced the art they saw from memory in Paint, and showed it to everyone in the thread. According to Nate Anim8, the leak dates back to November 2021.[20] Nate also stated that Nitty Gritty's sprites were made as a coping mechanism for the leak; this is reflected in Nitty Gritty's song, Faucet, having a Vs /v/-tan-esque artstyle, faint use of “row row, fight the power”, the name of his sprite sheet’s file (“Thanks_4chan”), and the riddle shown after Underground (“What leaks but isn’t SandPlanet”).
Appearance
Nitty Gritty wears a green jacket with white accents, black shorts, and either orange shoes or socks. He has a pure white microphone in his right hand. He has black hair in a ponytail, dark skin, and a grin with one orange eye. Along with all of that, his colors appear scribbled on top of them, with darker colors being the base and lighter colors being added on top.
Trivia
- Nitty and Julian share the same chromatic scale.

Trivia (General)
- It is the first mod to feature completely unique cutscenes between Boyfriend and his opponent.
- It's also the first time Girlfriend is seen being afraid of something other than thunder.
- This was until Definitive Edition, where she is no longer scared of Whitty. (Phantom Arcade stated on Twitter that her being afraid is out of character for her.)
- It's also the first time Girlfriend is seen being afraid of something other than thunder.
- This week is a rare case of Boyfriend being the challenger rather than his opponent.
- During the start of Overhead, sirens can be heard.
- The same can be said for Underground as of the Definitive Edition.
- It is unknown if Whitty actually understands Boyfriend's beeps and boops during the intro.
- The appearance of Girlfriend had changed between updates. The first version has her standing with her left hand on her hip, while the latest one has her swaying around.
- The new version also has thinner outlines on the body.
- The old version looked more like the vanilla Girlfriend.
- This mod is somewhat infamous due to Ballistic's elevated difficulty, even on Easy it's hard for players familiar with the base game's charting. Updates have made it slightly easier.
- Whitty is by far the most recognized character in the modding community alongside Carol, Hex, and Tricky.
- During a live stream with Nate Anim8, it was revealed that originally the plan was for Whitty to have a fourth song. The last song would have been slow and somewhat sad, and Whitty would have been captured by Updike, leading to Boyfriend going to the facility to demand Whitty's release. This was cut due to time constraints and other issues. The part where Boyfriend goes to the facility is later added in update 6.9.0 as a secret track.
- In the "shared/images" section, there is an icon set of Updike. While it is the exact same as the one seen in the main "images" section, the game uses the one in the "images" section and not the "shared" section. It also isn't hidden for some reason, unlike the other Updike assets. Only found in the v6.9.0 version.
- If the player goes into the debug menu, there is a joke character in the mod's files named "Wide", which is just Daddy Dearest but stretched out.
- He was removed in v1.2 of the full week edition until he got added back in the definitive edition.
- In the icon grid in the "images" section, there are icons for him. In the source code, he is just named "wide".
- This seems to be replaced with a version of standing Girlfriend, that shows her body being horizontally stretched instead of just her hips swaying.
- Ninjamuffin99, the creator of Friday Night Funkin', has acknowledged the mod's existence twice.
- The files for Ballistic have a chart for any build of BeatMania that supports Simfiles.
- In Ballistic's data folder, a folder named "Simfile" contains you can find a background, a banner, the music file and chart file (which are both named "lincoln_loud") for StepMania. There is also an "Information" text file that reads:
Built for Stepmania 3/Etterna. or really any stepmania fork that can read a .sm file. arrow vortex chad gang modded by tim, skittle, maru, and poco
- If the player tries to enter the "screw off :)" week, the whole game will crash.
- A sequel to the Whitty mod announced on March 31, 2021. Many people assumed that the teaser was a joke; however, Nate deconfirmed that it wasn't a joke and that it was going to happen, but the mod was (mostly) cancelled at the time, it was revealed to be The Date Week.
- Now as the time of the release of the Definitive Edition, sock.clip (Whitty's creator) now doesn't consider the Carol X Whitty shipping to be canon anymore.[21] So the Date Week is sort of a What If scenario/AU of sorts.
- Hungry is based off Ketchup - Eatin’ ft. Roddy Sandwicch (Ballin’ parody), with that respective song being a parody of Mustard - Ballin’ ft. Roddy Ricch.
- As of December 9, 2021, Nate Anim8 has confirmed on Twitter that Whitty can be included in mods, reskins, recharts, etc. During that time stories was an iffy subject to Sock in relation to Whitty at the time.[22]
- Now as of time of the Definitive Edition's release (February 2, 2022), anyone can do what they want with Whitty, which includes stories as long as they aren't NFSW.[23][24]
- In the Definitive Edition, some of the planned Whitmore content is staying scrapped like B-Sides,[25] however that might be a subject to change.[26][27]
- In the source code, there is code for the characters "whittyBSide," "whittyBSideCrazy," "bf-bside" and "gf-whitty-bside". These need the sprite sheets "BSideSprites," "WhittyBallisitcB," "bSide/BOYFRIEND" and "gf_whitty_bside" respectively in the "bonusWeek" section. "whittyBSide" sprite sheets has added in v1.2 but removed in a bugfix released 2 hours after. These skins would be activated if the song's name had "b-side" in it, which in the line that checks it there is a comment from KadeDev: "// leaks for the people who read source code lol!"
- There's a chance that Minus content for Whitty is going to happen, after all of Minus' weeks have been finished (Week 1 to 7)[28]
- "Doilus Week" is a reference to a glitch in Sonic the Hedgehog 3. If the sound test of said game is used to access its gumball machine bonus stage, exiting the stage will cause it to reload with a corrupted title card, with it reading "Doilus Stage" instead of "Bonus Stage".[29]
- The sound file grit.mp3 refers to a sped-up version of Among Us Impostor Disconnected because it was distorted.
- Faucet recycles the drums from Bopeebo.
- Faucet uses instruments from both Megalovania and sans. from UNDERTALE.
- There are currently three VS Whitty rips by SiIvaGunner that aren't included in the mod itself; Ballistic Remix , Ballistic (Definitive Edition) and Hungry (OST Version) .
- Some cameos can be seen in the background wall during Julian's songs:
- A crewmate is spray-painted on the wall to the far right.
- The Newgrounds Angry Faic can be seen, NOT Little Man.
- Two flying eyes can be seen; those are the twins from Terraria. During the wireframe segment, they reveal its true form.
- In the background of Underground (HQ), Spiderman can be seen spraypainted on the wall.
- The Super Smash Bros. 64 Master Hand boss can be seen in the background.
- Rottytops' idle animation from Faucet (HQ) is based on the same exact idle animation across the Shantae video game series.
